The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said it would commence the announcement of the governorship election rerun in Adamawa State at exactly 10am today, even as Yola the capital of the state is engulfed in anxiety. Our correspondent reported that a "heavy cloud" of apprehension hung on the town last night after election as both the Action Congress and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) believe they won the polls. There are however indications that the ruling PDP may be in the lead as an unconfirmed report available to LEADERSHIP Sunday indicates that Admiral Murtala Nyako might have won in many of the local governments. OPEC Plans $160b Projects To Boost Oil Production

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) members are planning to spend 160 billion US dollars over the next four years to boost production capacity. The Secretary General of OPEC, Abdalla Salem el-Badri who disclosed this while speaking on the sidelines of the recently concluded international energy forum in Rome, Italy, also stated that the organisation planned to boost its oil production target capacity by 5 million barrels a day by 2012. Aviation Workers Shelve Planned Strike
Following their meeting with the Minister of State for Transportation (Air Transport) Mr Felix Hyat, workers in the aviation industry have shelved their planned industrial action. Hyat had on Wednesday, met with the workers at the "Freedom Square", near the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, where they had gathered to finalise the strike action. The minister had rushed down to Lagos as the ultimatum given by the workers over the federal government's planned privatisation and concessioning of airports expired. Mr Frank Aiyede, the General Secretary, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), said the workers were hopeful that government had decided to carry them along in its plan.  ...more
Police Officer Shot Dead In Edo
The Police in Edo have commenced the search for the killers of a serving Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr. Tony Odidi, who was killed in Agenebode, Edo State. The policeman, according to a source, was shot by yet to be identified gun men at his residence. It was learnt that the deceased was said to be an elder brother to a local government chairman in the state. Yobe Governorship: Appeal Court Fixes Hearing April 30
The court of Appeal has fixed Wednesday, April 30, 2008 for hearing in the Suit brought before it by Senator Usman Albishir of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), challenging his unlawful substitution as the gubernatorial candidate of the ANPP in Yobe State, at the last April polls. Senator Albishir who polled a total of 382 votes to beat Mamman Ali, who polled 81 votes, at the ANPP guber primaries, was however substituted with Ali's candidacy few weeks to the election, under controversial circumstances, forcing Albishir to seek redress in the law courts.
