As we begin to develop the math club website I'd like to suggest that
simpler is better. We need to be sure to limit the information and
postings to something that we will (underlined) keep up to date and
current. I don't think theres any sense in creating an elaborate
web-site that we do not keep up to date. I suggest instead perhaps a
1-2 page site to begin with. If we can keep up on that we can expand
it as we see fit. On that note...

Some things we could include:
1. Members and officials
2. Meeting minutes and bilaws
3. Links to cool and interesting math related websites
4. some sort of problem of the week/month/semester
5. -insert your ideas here-

As soon as initial content is decided upon, I think we should break
into groups. Some folks should take on different aspects of the
content. I am willing to help develop the page interactivity, look,
and flow. What would you like to do??

A couple concerns regarding web page development that believe should be
added, and discussed.

- Web hosting.  What server space are we going to use for this site.
What technologies does this server space provide us with (php, perl,
command line access... php is the main thing I am interested in)

- Use.  How do we want to make use of this website?  For communication
within the group?  Recruiting?  For informing the public of various
services the group may provide?

We have access/permission to use some of the space under the UAS Math
Program Site on the UAS servers. I think that the only server-side
technology that we can use on these is perl. What were you thinking of
doing? You have sparked my interest!

Your second question is exactly what I was hoping this forum/group
would serve to answer. I think that in the long run, it would be great
if the site could do any/all of the items you mentioned (Cite Cyberfox:
communication within the group,  recruiting, informing the public of
various services the group may provide), however in the near term, I
think it would be great if we could get something posted that is
interesting, informative, and fun,  yet is small in scope and easy to
maintain (keep up to date).

www.foxwolfdesigns.com is a site I have written in php.  Basically if
we are going to be updating this site with news and whatnot, then we
can write it in php with an included password protected update section.
 This would remove the need to re-write html files every update.

That seems like it would be quite convenient, especially if the folks
that were going to update the page/keep it up to date weren't familiar
with html. I'll do what I can to ask around and see if php will run on
the servers. I was working on a site using php scripts right on my
UAS-Web folder, so it probably can be done. If so, would you be
interested in helping put something together?

Until we get some more feedback from other club members I wouldn't
spend too much time actually developing it, but rather lets stew on it
and see what others have to say. I am on break until the first part of
January, but I'll try to check in every now and then.
