T&T: West Marine hardware pricing

If you're considering nuts, bolts, and similar marine hardware at West, I'd
suggest a price comparison with Boaters World, if a store is available. BW
is a fairly new guy on the block at my location. As of yesterday the BW
prices were up to 40% cheaper. I won't even get into the West out-of-stock
issues.

Better buys are, of course, available at other suppliers, particularly in
larger quantities. I'm willing to pay a convenience premium for those
little quickie weekend projects but, West, give me a break!

Talking to a friend who is a part timer at West, they justify the pricing to
cover pilferage. I can't speak to that problem.

I have always had the experience at my local West Marine that they price
match any price in a boating catalog. Recently, I saved $40 on a new faucet
which was at a better price in the Defender Catalog.

I have found great bargains at places such as "Sailor's Exchange" here in St Augustine. S/S Nuts, Bolts & Washers are sold by the pound (2 or 3 dollars) scooped up with a claw. Many new surplus stuff.
