Mr. Twiss -

How should we contact you then?

I've been working more on the late 19th century stuff but I've found
Stephen Foster material showing up almost continuously into the 20th
century.

Your order can be in the mail by Friday if you order today

Note to all: not to confuse, like my husband, with the book "With A
Banjo On My Knee" by Rex Ellis, 2001.

As it turns out that's an interesting book in its own right. The
subtitle is "A Musical Journey From Slavery To Freedom" and the
preface starts with "This book is meant to explore the many ways being
black in America affected the music of African-Americans and
particularly the role played by the banjo". Among the consulting on
the book credited are Robert Winans, Sule Greg Williams, Phil Gura --
some of these I think I've seen mentioned in this this group?

Now I'll have both books!

This is a mystery worthy of Sherlock Holmes!

Carl Anderton <ande...@yahoo.com> wrote:

Well, "Cool Carol" just won't respond to me about my concerns about
her email address being identical to my name. It's all very odd; she
cheerfully responds to other post's here but she won't respond to me.

Someone who has seen her registration in another group told me that
her name was "Carol Ann Derton."

"Carol Ann Derton?" Am I the only one who thinks that we have a troll
here? A troll with issues related to me? You can google that name
but you'll get nothing. Not one single trace of her on the internet.
How many people on this board can you say that about?

That's not the only odd thing.

Click on her name here and check her post history. She started out
claiming not to know much about the banjo or minstrelsy, but she
proved to be a quick study. So read some of her old post's and tell
me if you notice anything odd about them. I have, and I'd like to
have my views corroborated.

Thanks.

Best bet: don't feed the trolls. Contact the list owner (offline) with
your concerns and let him deal with it. Discussing it here just
provides fodder.

Goodness, everyone.

Mr. Partner HAS asked me about this. My e-mail is working so for
anyone here, if it helps try it or re-try it...... for a secret
password "Hello, Carol Ann" works pretty good :)

I felt the other "Banjo on My Knee " book was interesting but geez,
sorry if this was so off-track.

All right, my friends, I'll try and end this little charade without
anymore distraction from the great things happening in the minstrel
banjo scene this spring.

There is not one shred of doubt in my mind that "Cool Carol Ann
Derton" is a troll name made up by our old asked-to-depart member,
"Dan'l" Wykes. "Her" posts constantly allude to him, defend him, link
his site, and of course reframe all his old arguments about what he
perceives as over-use of the early banjo methods books by some members
here. (An idea that was born with and died with "Dan'l"). Either
"Carol" is "Dan'l" or she's someone who worships "Dan'l."

I've actually been in contact with "Dan"l" about this whole loathsome
business and while he won't admit to the charade, he won't straight-up
deny it, either. He just tries to change the subject. An odd
response from someone being accused of this. If someone accused me of
using a troll identity for nefarious purposes, and I was innocent, I'd
tell them in no uncertain terms that they were off their nut and to
piss off.

And of course how odd that "Cool Carol" herself won't help us settle
our wee little difficulty. "She" sent Dan Partner a message saying
that she was "uncomfortable with personal responses." Okay, fine, but
she's never had a problem with responding to people (including me) on
this forum. She could prove me to be delusional and save her hero!
But alas, she's just too "uncomfortable" with that kind of thing.

Folks, it's DW, straight up.

He don't like to lose, either. Expect more shenanigans from "them."

Okay, I've spoken my peace. I hate that this get's in the way of our
business and (once again) has us shining a light on DW.

I got a nice email from one of MY banjo hero's, Greg Adams, and he
encouraged me to take the high road and not become too imflammatory,
which I've tried to do and will continue to do here. I just wanted to
underscore the fact that..."Carol Ann" = "Dan'l."

I'll speak no more of it, unless I am proven wrong in which case I
will apologize.

Back to discussions of new Partner/Simms book, which, if it has an
impact anything like their CD, will bring a host of new converts to
our little genre. Back to discussions of Tom Lather's new tunes in
The Banjo Clubhouse. Back to discussions of Wundstock III, which is
going to be the be-all end-all for early banjo enthusiasts, IMHO.
Back to discussing the new things our research may turn up.

I will end a happy and contented Briggs Banjo Gruop subscriber,

(The real) Carl Anderton.

I am not "DW". Is that what this is about? I'm getting annoyed, I
don't even understand what's going on.

Frankly, Mr. Anderton, put on your big boy pants!!

Can't we all just take a break and play our banjos ;)

Mr. Partner -

Frankly, you've been no help either, you've let my email get posted on
the restroom wall and you've not excercised any control to let some
stupid posts show and get everybody upset.

If you don't mind, please remove me for now, or let me know how to do
that.

Very nice book by the way, I thank you for that.

Carol Ann

(Carl - use my maiden name for a Google search next time, silly, what
kind of searchability do you think I'd have after a year and a half of
marriage? Put in Derton and you'd see my husbands family has a long
history in this country)

Can I see a show of hands, does anybody think those last two posts
were made by a woman?

Just like Dan'l, there's always the attempt to change the subject.
That's a Dan'l hallmark.

And she calls me "silly," isn't that cute?

Carol, since you mentioned it, what is your maiden name?

This whole thread is getting kinda creepy! I don't know about some of the rest of you, but weird stuff like this does nothing to enhance our image!!! People who read this thread who might be interested in the banjo might also think that their hunches about the banjo are correct: that it is a peculiar instrument played by even more peculiar men!!!......Brian in NC

Well Brian, perhaps you would have responded differently if someone
made up a troll identity out of your name. Perhaps I should have
remained silent and let him do his thing. What started to catch my
attention was when someone said they thought it was me trolling!

Once again, and I'll try really hard not to respond to him again...
Carol Ann Derton does not exist.

I know most people on this board personally, from the EBG's and other
events. I would like to think they know me as a pretty nice guy,
maybe drinks a little much sometimes, maybe smokes too much sometimes,
but definitly not an ogre.

I did this because "Dan'l" once again played games with me on this
board. And that was just too much to take lying down.

Carl....You've always impressed me as being a good guy (via your posts in this group)....As far as a you versus a troll is concerned, I guess my point could be summed up in something I think I remember George Washington used to say: "Explain not! Friends don't need it and enemies won't believe it!"......All the best intentions, Brian in NC......P.S.......Tim, is that "Banjo on My Knee" book offer still going?
