WOW! My birthday was also on yesterday....Well, actually my birthday was June 17, 1959....The anniversary was yesterday! I am quite honored to have at least something of a "tangible" relationship with the history of the banjo!....Brian in NC

players who share this day!
My wife and I celebrated by going for Thai food and then to the AFI
Theater in Silver Spring, Maryland to see the screening of Bela
Fleck's new documentary about his 2005 five-week trip to Africa
(Uganda, Tanzania, Mali, and Gambia), "Throw Down Your Heart" (http://
www.throwdownyourheart.com/). After the screening, Bela and his
brother Sascha Paladino, who was the director, did a Q&A followed by
Bela playing with Malian ngoni player Cheick Hamala Diabate. I briefly
met with Bela to congratulate him on the documentary and tell him that
I was in Gambia in 2006 and will be going back next month. He
responded favorably. Bela and Sascha told the crowd that they are
trying to establish a distributor for the movie and will wait to
release the accompanying CD until they figure out what will happen
with the distribution. Otherwise, they'll release the CD next year.
Hopefully it'll all come out at the same time.
Can't wait for AEBG III
