Subject: Three journalists return allotted plots as a protest against government's shrewd and unfair plot distribution policy

"In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful"

Asalamo Alykum,

The journalists to do so are Ansar Abbasi, Absar Alam and Ahmad Noorani.

They hold the point of view that why does the government allot plots to a
selected few communities from the public, namely, the army, the politicians
themselves, the bureaucracy, the judges and now the journalists have been
added to this elite group. Why?

Absar Alam has revealed that journalists have only recently been added to
this priviledged group. The media was slowly gaining strength in
Musharraf''s time, and part of their active criticism was the allotment of
plots by the government to keep a few happy and in their pocket. When the
media seemed to be getting out of hands in this regard, someone from among
the Establishment popped this brilliant idea to include these very
journalists in this priviledge to indirectly and subconciously shut their
mouths.

However, they plan, and Allah plans too. And indeed, Allah is the best of
planners.

"Thus they plotted a plan, and We too plotted a plan which they did not
perceive. Just see what was the outcome of their plot! We annihilated them
completely, together with all their people."  [The Holy Quran, Surah'e Naml,
Verses 50, 51]

Allah Subhaan'o wa Ta'ala raises among every community God-fearing people
who listen to the prick of their heart when something is fishy and gives
them the strength to investigate it. Ansar Abbasi says that he was feeling
uneasy about the whole thing, yet was hesitiant to discuss it with his wife
lest she confirms his unease and says that the plot allotment is unfair and
they should return it. However, Allah Subhaan'o wa Ta'ala gave him the
strength to do so ultimately.

"And yet, I am not trying to absolve myself; for verily, man's inner self
does incite (him) to evil, and saved are only they upon whom my Sustainer
bestows His Grace. Behold, my Sustainer is much Forgiving, a Dispenser of
Grace!" [The Holy Quran, Surah'e Yousuf, Verse 53]

It may be noted here that anyone taking the plot is not doing anything
illegal. The allotment by itself is legal and as per procedure. However, it
is the intention and policy behind it which is wrong, and very wrong.

It is the opinion of some that these three journalists, by doing a voluntary
act of correctness are pressurizing their peers to do the same, while some
journalists might be in real need of plots. To this Absar Alam replied that
this is not their intention and have declared the legality of accepting
plots. Nevertheless, they want to make a strong and practical statement to
the government to expose the unfairness of this distribution. He agrees that
many journalists would be in justified need of plots, but then so are the
doctors, teachers, clerks, farmers, drivers, etc. in need. Why are they
ignored? Because they do not hold the power to topple the governent?

Lastly, the incident of Nazir Naji abusing Ahmad Noorani was while he was
seeking Naji's version on his illegal plot allotment, not the legal one. The
conversation can be listened to at

While the stance of Ansar Abbasi, Absar Alam and Ahmad Noorani can be heard
at Azhar Mani Show, AAG TV. The hosts are comics but they have done a good
job on a serious issue.
