Hey guys,

I've just coded a SplashScreen plugin for TW, inspired by TiddlyPom. It provides a simple splash screen that is visible while the TW loads. It's easy to customize.
Get it here: http://lewcid.googlepages.com/lewcid.html#SplashScreenPlugin

Known Issues:
sometimes the splash screen doesnt seem to display. I believe this is because the file is being loaded from the cache. Do a forced refresh and it should display just fine.

Cheers,

Saq

I vote for a splash screen in 2.1 core

FWIW the above presents the SplashScreen but then generates an error
dialog in Safari: "Error in systemConfig tiddle 'TiddlerListMacro' -
ReferenceError - Can't find variable: gCurrentTiddle". The page fails
to load automatically, you must click "OK" in the dialogh box to
continue.

Reloading the page presents the same dialog, w/o the splash screen.

For the record, this error does not have to do with the SplashScreenPLugin, but rather with the TiddlerListMacro. I'll email the author in question.

That's because it's being loaded from your cache. If you force a refresh, it will display a splash screen. So for its intended purpose, online... it should work fine. If the file isnt cached, the splash screen is displayed while it loads.

Ditto! It's easy to implement and universally useful. My next intended step is to use a special tiddler for the content of the SplashScreen, like with the SiteTitle and SiteSubTitle tiddlers... that will make it easy to customize too.

If a splash screen is included in the core in the future, I believe an approach along those lines would be the best idea.

Cheers,

Saq
