I'm really new at this so hope the question doesn't kill too many by
laughter!. I have started my first TiddlyWiki. I have made a tiddler
with plain text. I now want to list some documents that can be
downloaded. How do I do that?

Hi bwallum,

As far as I know - you can't make easily links which automatically
initiate a download - but a link would open a file in a new browser
window or tab. But it also depends on the file type. Zipped files, for
example, would be downloaded, but pictures, pdf, html etc. shown.

Of course, it still is always possible to right-click a link and
choose 'save as':

A link to some http directory is as easy as writing:

http://www.whereever.com/filename.htm

And you can prettyfy it by giving it a label this way:

[[download|http://www.whereever.com/filename.zip]]

The following TiddlyWikis have much help - from absolute beginner

Thanks, that has helped me a lot. I now have my first wiki up and
running. Its really quick to get going with your pointers. The syntax
for the link [[descriptive text|linked document]] was particularly
useful. I will relish going through all your links tomorrow.

I have also found the view button so can see what others have done.

Running Firefox, the documents open with the appropriate viewer and give
a choice of downloading or viewing. I haven't tried it with IE yet.

I'm also running Ubuntu Intrepid (very good btw) so I need to test it on
a MAC and Windows machine.

Thanks again
Bob

There are also bookmarklets like 'EnableEdit' which you can drag and
drop to your bookmark/favorite's browser bar and with only one click
will toggle online TiddlyWikis into edit mode:
