The social conferencing tool that Osmosoft is developing for LeWeb
(which had the working title of TiddleLeWeb) has now been given the
official name of RippleRap. Conceptually it is still the same project,
with the same functionality outlined by Jon here:

http://tinyurl.com/23n6f8

And we've taken your comments into account in the design, so thank you
for those! The formal (well, as formal as these things get at
Osmosoft) announcement, complete with initial screen mock-up created
by Phil Hawksworth, is here:

http://philwhitehouse.blogspot.com/2007/11/introducing-ripplerap.html

This will be part of a broader experience, which will include
everything from the stall at the event to the USB keys, to the
interactions with BT's SDK and relationship to the presentation being
given by JP Rangaswami, who is Jeremy Ruston's boss. So quite a lot to
coordinate and get done.

We'll keep you posted on developments.

Cheers,
Phil

For those who aren't aware, the first version of RippleRap was
completed at 2am on Tuesday - five hours before we had to present it
at our stand at Le Web!

We're pleased to say that it held up fine, quite a few people were
using it and if you'd like to see the finished product (including
notes), you can download it from RippleRap.com. Once you've signed in,
the session notes will start coming down from the server gradually.

We've been checking RippleRap into subversion, but we'll now focus on
better ways of packaging the product for other people to use (for
instance with proper documentation).

I've given a full account of the RippleRap experience at
http://philwhitehouse.blogspot.com/2007/12/le-web-morning-after.html

Cheers,
Phil

just a few words from me: I've given it a shot while following the
conference's live stream (from home, I've not been in Paris...) and I
would encourage everyone who participates in conferences regualarly -
or those who set up conferences - to give it a try as I am totally
impressed by ripplerap's possibilities...

A powerful tool for collaborative note taking during conferences
(speeches, lectures, ...) combined with the power of TiddlyWiki (cross-
browser, cross-OS, flexible, simple, easy to understand,
portable, ...)

I'm not totally getting it: Is RippleRap something that eventually one
would be able to put on their own web server and use as a "regular" TW
that has true comment ability like a regular blog? (I'm already aware
of the Haloscan possibility, but this looks like it might be more self-
contained)

@Alex: Funny you should mention that! We found out about that
yesterday, and are seriously considering sending a small contingent of
Osmosoftonians.

@Dave: That wasn't the original intention behind RippleRap. It was
really about maintaining the offline model but with a mechanism for
syncing with other TiddlyWiki files when connected to the web. And
also making sure the offline experience wasn't prejudiced if a web
connection wasn't available. But certainly there are elements of the
experience and the look and feel that can be reused (for example there
is a clear visual distinction between your comments and other
people's).
