Is it possible to have rssReader point to a local file? I can get it
to work with remote feeds, but on local rss feeds (generated from
another TiddlyWiki using the chkGenerateAnRssFeed option), I can't get
it to work.

I'm using the following syntax:
<<rssReader asHtml file://P:/test.xml>>

I've tried many permutations of file url syntax, as well as asText,
noDesc, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try adding another forward slash:
<<rssReader asHtml file:///P:/test.xml>>

thanks, but no go.

Using RSSReaderPlugin 1.1.1 and rev 2.4.0 of TiddlyWiki b.t.w.

i've tried a test.xml file that's autogenerated by the wiki, as well
as downloading a xml feed from espn that definately works remotely.

Fred is right, you need the "file:///" syntax to access the local file system.

thanks, but no go.

I've just tested in a fresh 2.4.0 TiddlyWiki with RSSReaderPlugin 1.1.1 and it works.

Is your TiddlyWiki accessed from your local disk ? What browser are you using ?

Hi ed,

I too found that the RSSReaderPlugin didn't work with FF3 + tw2.4 when
I used file:///.
FF3 gave me [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520012
(NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) [nsIXMLHttpRequest.send]"

But it did work when I tried <<rssReader asHtml ./test.xml>> on Mac OS
X where the test.xml was in the same directory as my TiddlyWiki.
Maybe try lopping off the file:/// bit and see if it will go.

Thanks for telling us about this great plugin and BidiX and Bram Chen
for making it.

More new TiddlyToys!

Best,
tony

For me with FF3 + tw2.4 on OSX,  all these syntaxes work :
  • <<rssReader asHtml file:///Users/bidix/temp/index.xml>>
  • <<rssReader asHtml index.xml>>
  • <<rssReader asHtml ./index.xml>>

Thanks for the correction, BidiX
I copied and pasted all 3 of your paths and indeed they worked
(changing the first one to my local path for the xml file)!
I guess I made a typo the first go around; sorry ed.
Try file:/// again.

thanks for all the replies- i tried all the different syntaxes
suggested, and none of them work- they don't throw any errors, but
they don't work either. the tiddlywiki and xml file are both on the
local disk.

running on xp professional, sp2, IE 6, sp2 (buile 2900.2180)

On this subject, can anyone point to how I make a tiddlywiki the
source of an RSS feed, can it be done at a tiddler level ?

I am familiar with using rss feeds, just not publishing them, Internet
searches result in lots of RSS Fee info ?

Could this provide a Just In Time type of database link ?

eg; I have a tiddler in one wiki say "contactlist", and when I open it
I can get the last list or update and get the current list from
another "Master" wiki.

Thanks (Another Tony)

Hey Tony,

TiddlyWiki publishes RSS feeds when you save it, if you've ticked the "generate RSS feed" checkbox.

What do you mean by "Just In Time type of database link"?
