I've started a new thread here as suggested by FND.

I cannot import into 2.5.1 or 2.5.2 using TiddlyTools
ImportTiddlersPlugin either
as bookmarklet or by installing ImportTiddlersPlugin directly into the
empty TiddlyWiki.

In 2.5.1 I thought I could import using the built in import feature
But now I've upgraded to 2.5.2 even that doesn't work for me.

When you choose the file to import from it doesn't open to let you see
the tiddlers. It just sits there doing nothing.

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem.

No, but ExportTiddlersPlugin doesn't work for me in 2.5.0.

I can confirm this (Firefox 3.0.11 on Ubuntu).

After installing ImportTiddlersPlugin v4.5.0 in a fresh TiddlyWiki 2.5.2
document, I tried importing from a TiddlyWiki document in the same
directory, which raised the following exception:
---------------
uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code:
0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)
[nsIScriptableUnicodeConverter.ConvertToUnicode]" nsresult: "0x8000ffff
(NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)" location: "JS frame ::
file:///tmp/TiddlyWiki.html :: mozConvertUTF8ToUnicode :: line 8007"
data: no]
---------------

Eric, could this be due to your custom file-browsing dialog?

I didn't get an exception in FF 3.05 Vista it just wouldn't show the
tiddlers.

Also did you try the built-in import function? For me it worked in
2.5.1 but not in 2.5.2 as it did in ImportTiddlersPlugin just froze.

Worked fine for me - in fact, that's how I installed the plugin from
TiddlyTools.com in the first place.

FND,

With the backstage importing, it appears that it depends where you are
importing from. The file picker erroneously uses the directory path
from the file you are importing into instead of the path to the file
you want to import from.

With ImportTiddlersPlugin you must add file:/// to the path to get it
to work.

Is there any chance this might get fixed soon?

Sounds like this known issue:
http://tiddlywiki.org/wiki/Firefox#File_Access

Eric's plugin provides a custom file picker to get around this issue.
However, it's possible that technique breaks in Firefox 3.5.

So this might not be related to TiddlyWiki 2.5.x. I'm not entirely sure
at this point though.

The backstage importer doesn't just report an error, it changes the
path name. I suppose this is to prevent the security error that will
arise if you import from an off-directory file.

There's a certain humor to this -- I can import from a questionable
server in Timbuktu, but not from a file deliberately selected on my
own hard drive!

Eric's plugin allowed me to import from a separate directory path on
FF 3.0.11 under XP using TW 2.5.2 successfully. Maybe later I'll try
it with FF 3.5.

On my system, Eric's import works with FF 3.5 under XP using TW 2.5.2.

Morris,

If it wouldn't be too intrusive, could I have a copy of the file you
are importing into? Its hard to diagnose this sort of thing from a
distance. If it works for me, then we'll know it has something to do
with the browser or platform. If it doesn't work, it will be easier to
try to trace than playing "20 questions" remotely ;-)

Just click on "Reply to author" to start a dialog.

I have tried ImportTiddlersPlugin(v4.5.1) in 2.5.2 and it works
satisfactorily. Thank you.

I use the ImportTiddlersPlugin bookmarklet extensively will you be
upgrading that as well?

Morris
