I also live in 10 and this drives me crazy. And we do have rats underneath the dumpsters, I've seen them.

I wish we knew who these lazy people are, and fine them or at least leave their trash on their doorstep (we need cameras).

This is because some residents are too lazy to open the gate and walk inside to place their garbage bag in the dumpster. Instead they try to throw their garbage over the gate and either miss completely or half get it in there. Either way, they are careless and thoughtless. I'm surprised we don't have a serious rat/mouse infestation, as they would have a field day.

yes we are infested with rats here!  I've only seen a few rats in the dumpster area of my building but many are all over the complex.  When I'm out walking my dog, I often see them running up and down the buildings.  The landscapers have rat traps (black little housing) but my dog keeps wanting to reach in and kill whatever is in there.  I have no idea what the solution is to stop the rat problem other than my dog killing them!  Gross.
I caught a guy in our bldg (if you are seeing this post, shame on you!) who threw a bunch of bottles but missed all of them and walked away. I asked (eventually yelled) him to pick it up and he ignored me and walked away.  Some people!!

Speaking of rats - anyone know about some of the feral cats that live on the property?  Does it belong to anyone?  Have they been fixed?  Sometimes cats are best at controlling the rat population.

I think I'll contact the HOA office and ask them to put up a sign. See if that works. Otherwise the next step would be cameras.

There is one feral cat that I've seen around building ten. If its catching the rats, great! Not the answer necessarily to the problem though.

i DESPISE rats...im glad i havent seen them.  But more importantly, how can we prevent them from coming into our units.  Has anyone had problems with rats in their units??

I too get pissed at peoople who throw trash around.  There is one person, i havent seen, that ALWAYS leaves their trash bag on the side of the trash can.  i dont get how they cant just toss it over.  When i see this, i pick it up and throw it in there for them.  If you guys see this, please do it.  Luckily i havent seen any rats go thru them.

Ron responded promptly to my email about a sign by the garbage bins.  I don't know if he is going to do this for all buildings, or just building ten.

Update. Ron is having the sign 'made' and it should be ready for installation some time next week.

Are you sure they are rats rather than possums?  There are a lot of possums in this area.  They are still in the rodent family, but seeing a possum turns my stomach less than rats!

yes rats for sure!  I see them crawling up our buildings all the time.  I have also had some issues with rat poop on our balcony!
Opposums can get as big or bigger than cats.  My dogs killed 2 large opposums so far :)
There are rat boxes all over the ground of our complex so HOA is aware of it...
