Hi. Honestly no ill feelings. I really do appreciate all of your
input.

My friend came with me this morning to check out the puppy place.
There was 2 of them in a 8 x 6 pen. (there are lots of other pens
with more pups in). The pup I like was with a sausage dog pup. So
they do have some room to stretch their legs even if it isn't ideal.

I sure wasn't trying to make her feel bad...that wasn't my intention at all.
But people need to know the dark side to the world of puppies as well as all
the cute stuff. I apologize, Mellie, if I made you feel bad...now back to

Getting a dog is always a difficult dilemma.....I think we all agree
that Puppy Farms are bad and that giving a dog from a rescue centre is
a good thing to do but I will say that rescue dogs have also usually
gone through a traumatic time as well.....The regulations put in place

Thank you, Greg. Unfortunately, they said rescue wouldn't adopt to them
because they have a 5 year old child. I wouldn't adopt one of my Chis to
them either. I get more that have bitten a child because of rough play than
any thing else. The child might not mean to be rough but the tiny dog does
not know this.

Why are so many of us trying to make Mellie feel bad? We all know that
Mellie is a smart, caring woman. We exressed our opinions, she expressed
hers and she has made her decision. At least we know that she'll give the
puppy a much better life than many people would. I think it's time for us to
give her a break.

Mellie -, I highly recommend you get a rescue dog. The experience I
have had with observing other people's experiences with dog sources
(and cats too) has been that the entities (dogs in this case, and cats
too) have a little "extra" something that pampered dogs and cats don't

many fronts so badly that their pedigrees aren't worth the paper they are

Buying AKC from a breeder doesn't guarantee that the dogs are treated
well or are good dogs. Neither does paying a lot of money.

We purchased a AKC Chihuahua from a breeder about 7 years ago, He was
"supposed" to be 9 months old. He is older than that, but how much is

Sounds like a pound puppy to me.
My state opened a new department of Animal Cops a couple of years ago,
like you see on Animal Planet. Our team covers the whole state and works
together with local agencies when possible. The horrors they have
revealed is unbelievable. And most of the worst were puppy mills. I

Hello. Thanks everybody. Having a real hard time of it here. Most
shelters/rescue places won't entertain us rescuing a dog as we have a
child under 5. Honestly everybody states this. My daughter is a very
gentle kid but they state that we would be refused. Doesn't help
much.

OK.... You're gonna get the puppy. If your husband is anything like mine
he'll cave to the look in your eyes! Just, do 1 thing before you and your
daughter get too attached; call your own vet and get the puppy to see him as
soon as possible for your family's safety and sanity.

Mellie - AKC or anyone's certification doesn't take into account the
puppy's experience for the first couple of months of his life - and
these experiences imprint onto the dog's personality, growth, immune
system for life. Just like in humans. Puppy mill dogs are raised in the

So I will be at thepetstore at 10am tomorrow to see if the puppy has been
sold and if mydaughter likes him. (there is no chance she won't) and see

Guess I disagree with everyone else. The way I see it, a pet shop is no place for a puppy to live. We (back in my pet shop days) sold puppies we bought from breeders. Quit after we found chewing gum pushed into their ears. Guess it was good I didn't catch the SOB, young or old, leather sex, I would have stuck gum into their ear until it came out their other ear. Before that, had a couple dropped which broke their legs. The way I look at it, the faster the puppy gets out of the store, the better it will be for it, no matter where the puppy came from. Of course, nothing stopping you telling the pet shop owner what you think about pet shops selling puppies - I do it all the time, not that it makes any difference................
