He did it, he said he would and HE DID IT!!!!!    Pat left Louisiana a mere mortal AND HE RETURNS A K-HOUND!!!!   Yep, yesterday's 300k cinched the deal for the Mardi-Gras King.  He could have eeeeasily stayed home and knocked out a couple of perms, but instead he drove the 9hrs to Fort Worth, America and started the rainy, drizzly, icky LSR 300k yesterday AND HE'S STILL SMILING! :)   My superstitions got the better of me yesterday as I typed up a congrats to him, so I decided to not jinx the thing, then this morning he says his broken leg wreck was the 13th time he'd ridden that perm - ouch!  So, now it's all safe and sound and in the bank.    The K-Hound Klub has a bright and smiley Louisiana pup now - CONGRATULATIONS PAT! It is tough to ride with LSR. The riders are much faster than I am.
It is tough to ride the hills out of Willow Park - especially for a
boy from the south Louisiana flat lands on a recumbent.
It is tough to ride on a chilly, damp, overcast, dreary day.
It would have not been acceptable (to me) to receive the accolades of
becoming a K-Hound without riding with LSR!
All in all - a great weekend!

Pat,

You came to Parker County just a little puppy and left a big dog K-Hound. The rides out of Willow Park are the ones we talk about for years to come. They are always epic adventures. The bad ones are always better than the good ones. I have done them in fall for the last three years and will continue the tradition next year and every following year for as long as I can ride.

Now here is a little know fact about Pat: He is the ONLY BENT who has done any of my November rides this year (and I think any past year) out of Parker County. These are tough roads for a bent or a tandem. Then add the chilly nights and nasty days and you get tough.

So this is my invitation to all of the bent riders and those diamond frame riders who have sat the last two weeks out. Come on out and ride the roads I ride. Experience the hills, chip seal, dogs, head wind, nasty wet roads, and cold nights that make the rides out of Parker County true epic adventures.

I have RUSA rides on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this holiday weekend. I will list the details in a future email.

Just because I was the Lantern Rouge (also the name for my red bent)
doesn't mean the roads are not recumbent friendly - it all depends on
how the engine is tuned! Although I did need to drop to my granny gear
on several occasions (32/28 with 700C rear wheel) the hills are not
that bad. Chip and seal is not as nice as asphalt to cycle on but I
did not find the roads to be as rough as many I've ridden in Texas.
The dogs were more friendly than mean - almost all were confined to
their yards and the ones that came out to greet me were wondering
about what type of a contraption I was riding. Weather conditions? -
It is the one thing impossible to plan around. Although I will admit
that my bike came home weighing 5 lbs more than when I left out.
All in all I'd give the course at least two thumbs up! The course was
well thought out, Controls were well stocked with many additional
convenience stores along the way. The que sheet was flawless and easy
to follow. I found the roads with higher traffic had good wide
shoulders with very little debris. And best of all the company of LSR
cyclists - always a joy to ride with!
I would encourage any recumbent rider to do this route - after all if
a fat guy (who broke his femur 4 months ago) from the flat lands can
do it - anyone who wants to can!
