Ride So You Can Eat Even More!

FWBA,

It is with great sadness I have to report that route that I was
planning on riding Thanksgiving Day has to be changed due to
construction. The Westward Ho route is not possible at this point. So
in a last minute executive decision I am changing the route to What
the Hill Was I Thinking.

LSR,

The more I think about this the more I need to congratulate my long time FWBA riding buddy John Pogue on completing his first 300K and officially coming over to the Dark Side.

Even though the weather was crappy, John was in the highest of spirits for the entire ride. He showed up without a rain jacket and tights and I loaned him some extras from my rando bag (don't leave home without it - even if home is 5 miles away). We even wrapped our socks in plastic bags to stay warm in the cold wet mist. I told him that it would get cold that night and being tired you will feel even colder, so pack extra. I made it my personal mission to make sure he completes this ride.

Thanks for hosting the last two rides, Gary. It was a great way to
complete another series for the year.The nasty weather and gloomy
skies on Saturday are what I expect for winter riding that's why I
love the summer time. :-)

Just because I was the Lantern Rouge (also the name for my red bent)
doesn't mean the roads are not recumbent friendly - it all depends on
how the engine is tuned! Although I did need to drop to my granny gear
on several occasions (32/28 with 700C rear wheel) the hills are not
that bad. Chip and seal is not as nice as asphalt to cycle on but I

aaaaaahhhhh Val.....I KNEW YOU LOVED ME!!! "Limited riding partners" and in my pea brain, the only riding partner missing was MEEEEE :) Wouldya take that up with the boss so I can get back to riding on weekends!!

Glad your pucker saved you guys from a car incident....we can ask Pat Horchoff how "those" work out! No' so good.

Good point on the generator hub. If my hub would fail I can turn my helmet light forward and set it to its brightest setting and it makes a great back up light. I normally run it on its lowers setting aimed down to illuminate my cue sheet an bike computers. Trouble is the only Schmidt hub I have ever seen fail was Bob Riggs and the wheel stopped turning. He called a friend from one of the controls and got a new front wheel and a battery light delivered.

Pat,

You came to Parker County just a little puppy and left a big dog K-Hound. The rides out of Willow Park are the ones we talk about for years to come. They are always epic adventures. The bad ones are always better than the good ones. I have done them in fall for the last three years and will continue the tradition next year and every following year for as long as I can ride.

It is tough to ride with LSR. The riders are much faster than I am.
It is tough to ride the hills out of Willow Park - especially for a
boy from the south Louisiana flat lands on a recumbent.
It is tough to ride on a chilly, damp, overcast, dreary day.
It would have not been acceptable (to me) to receive the accolades of

Sorry you took offence to my post; I didn't intend to criticise you in
any way. I was just reporting our experience.
Congrats to all that reached personal milestones. I'm happy that
others had a good ride.
On the subject of lights, I'm only speaking for myself so please don't
take offence. I carry a completly independent back-up light system

Part of me is sorry that you had a bad ride and as the ride organizer part

I live in NE Austin, about 5 miles from Manor. I can easily ride from my
house out to Manor on back roads. I've probably travsersed the city of
Manor on a bicycle 100 times at least.

The road that they are banning cyclists on, Blake Manor Road, used to be a
great place to ride 5 or 6 years ago. But with all the new subdivisions

Yesterday had a very close call on the tandem. A car pulled out in
front of us. I slammed on the brakes but didn't have room enough to
stop without t-boning the car. Made a quick right turn and somehow

We all as cyclists make decisions as to what is safe and what is not safe. If I decide to ride the service road of the Dallas North Tollway at 2am then it is only resonable for me to expect that I am greatly increasing the odds that I will get hit by a car. If I participate in a club ride that has a section of bad road, but chose to ride because I like the route, then I have taken that responsibilty upon myself.
