Instances - an example to talk about
|
| |
Hi all I am, for my night job, working on a dissertation aimed at creating a Network Design Modelling Language (NDML). Some of you have seen my earlier posts about instances, and no doubt enjoyed the related discussions :-) I felt that it would be useful to anchor such discussions with an "real world" example, so I have created one using MagicDraw and attached it, and a... more »

Ports and (Internal) block diagrams
|
| |
Hello,
I am a little bit new on sysML, I hope you'll forgive me to query on a
basic question.
I try to modelize a system, allocated on several centres. Centre A and
centre B.
Centre A is divided into 2 parts : Part A1 and Part A2
Centre B is divided into 2 parts : Part B1 and Part B2
On a logical point of view, A1 communicates with B1 and A2... more »

Target of CallOperationAction
|
| |
Hi,
i modelled a procedure of my system through an activity diagram. i use
a callAperationAction and as target, i want to chose an instance of
block of my model. i explain:
Example: my system is a car with four wheels ( rigthFrontWheel,
rigthBackWheel, leftbackwheel, leftFrontWheel), to model this, i draw... more »

Block Definition Diagram query
|
| |
Hi,
In my Block Definition Diagram, the input parameters and the return
type of a Operation must be XML. The input parameters and the return
type may have different XML structure (i.e they use different XML
schema).
What is the best way to model this ? If I use primitive type "String"
for input and return type this doesn't capture the structure of the... more »

Lack of complete Instance semantics in SysML
|
| |
...Actually, it's more ironic than odd. During the time when the two SysML submission teams were actively competing Instance syntax/semantics was a key design issue on which they seemed to agree at a high level. Indeed, the SysML Partners planned to incorporate Instance syntax/semantics in the next (beta) version of their specification.... more »

Composition hierarchy questions
|
| |
Some questions regarding composition hierarchy. I will refer to
figures in "A Practical Guide to SysML" to help explain the questions.
There seem to be two ways to model composition hierarchy. One can use
a composite association between the whole and the part in a block
definition diagram as shown between Camera and Mount Assembly in... more »

Ports and instances
|
| |
Hi all I am working on a project to see if I can use SysML/UML to define network elements, and then use instances of network elements in a network design. Creating network elements as blocks with ports with types like "Switch" and "Ethernet" port is relatively straightforward. I then create instances of those Switch types, expecting to see aninstance... more »

Multiple element instances in a deployment diagram
|
| |
Hello Paul,
The questions you pose conflate modeling language and tool issues, so in
my reply I will endeavor to separate the two.
...
First, we need to clarify that Deployment diagrams are part of the UML
language rather its SysML dialect, where SysML is defined as a UML
Profile. (For this reason I am cc-ing my response to the UML Forum, so... more »

Multiple element instances in a deployment diagram
|
| |
I would like to be able to have multiple instances of an element
(node, device, etc.) in a deployment diagram (for example, multiple
client stations connected to a server). I am using EA and it, at
least, will not let me do so. Is there a way to get around this or do
what I want to do?
I'd also like to represent two (or more) environments separated by... more »
