I think that it would be a good idea for Google to group all of the online applications in to a single web application. Something like an eDesktop. I actually started making one for fun. Let me know what you think, here is a screen shot:

I think it will be very memory expensive to have all this application at one page. Try opening this apps you have on screen shot in tabs of one window*, play some with each app, then check memory stats. That's why, we have gadgets with basic functionality for now. In my opinion, it will be nice if designers will keep on improving current gadgets.
* close all browser windows except this window if you have any :)

That looks VERY nice. It looks like you're using the Ext 2.0 web desktop code for that. I'd love to chat with you about your app as its a great example of how the web desktop can be used.

I agree with you 100% that this would be memory expensive, but so is Vista and people still use it ;)
Seriously though, my idea is not to force people to run every Google application at the same time. It is to allow an easy transition from OS applications to online web tools that are free and better. There would be no reason to buy MS-Office if you could go to Google Desktop and have something that looked familiar with all of your office tools there for free. Google tries to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful and yet the end user does not even know about all of Google's applications. Many people that I know do use Gmail, but those links at the top left corner of the website just don't do the job of informing people about the other Google applications.

Thats a neat idea. Its a bit like igoogle. Problem with that is that when you have email, calendar, news, finance all together it seems to get a bit slow. Not sure if it is memory or bandwidth.

Do you mean "How do you make a screenshot?" 1. Click the PrtScrn button (or use Alt_PrtScrn if you want just the active window, not the whole screen). This puts the image onto the Clipboard.
2. Paste into a paint-type program (I use PaintShop Pro).
3. Save it as a file, in .JPG, .PNG or ,GIF format (the last requires you to reduce the colour palette to 356 colours). The usual advice is to use .JPG for photos and one of the others for simple diagrams etc. Note that a JPG loses some of hte information in its compression algorithm, a PNG does not, and neither does a GIF if the picture can be successfully rendered in 256 colours.
4. To include the picture in your Gdoc import the file you have just created.

It is missing some components from the previous screen shot, but that is because everything in this version works. You can chat, check your e-mail, and search. There is also a login at the start and a log out button.
I will try to add some of the other key applications, but feel free to let me know if you have any ideas.
