Dear All,
Greetings from Sphere India!
Srinagar Conference on Minimum Standards postponed
This is in reference to the "Conference on Minimum Standards in Disaster
Response" that was scheduled to be organized in Srinagar during 2nd - 4th
July 2009.
Unfortunately, the conference is being postponed to some later dates due to
the prevailing security reasons in Srinagar. There has been some firing in
Varamula yesterday killing 2 people and injuring many others. Authorities
have imposed indefinite curfew in Varamula and there is a call for a three
days strike in the whole valley starting from today. It is anticipated that
the situation may deteriorate further.
Looking at the situation, it is foreseen that the conference will be badly
affected if organized in the planned dates. It is anticipated that the
targeted audience will not be able to turn up in the program due the strike
and this will certainly affect the conference objectives.
Considering the prevailing situations in Srinagar and recommendations from
the J&K State Inter Agency Group & other key people in J&K, the conference
dates are being postponed. The next dates shall be announced soon after
assessing the situations.
We regret for the inconvenience caused.
Please feel free to get back to me should you need any more information /
support.
Thanks & regards,
Raman Kumar
