2009-07-03 06:06:57 - Skin is used by Air New Zealand in its latest
promotion video.
Air New Zealand decided to strip down to bare (painted) skin eight of
its support staff, in order to help create their latest video. Their
aim was to turn a boring everyday subject into fun. They had no idea
what tiger they were letting out of its cage.
No one enjoys sitting watching the safety video which all commercial
airlines must show, at the start of every flight anywhere in the
world. Air New Zealand overcome this problem by producing the
‘nothing
to hide’ video. The flight crew dressed in nothing more than body
paint, accompanied to music by Auckland singer Gin Wigmore, “Under My
Skin".
Remaining fully family friendly, the discretely filmed video makes
everyone watch to see just how much is really going to be revealed.
From hiding behind a drink’s trolley to sitting discretely on a seat,
there is less exposure of skin than you would see if you were to walk
along Bondi Beach in Australia, on a hot summer’s day. Suggestive
shots are quickly blurred away.
Elave Nothing To Hide’ campaign developed by Saatchi & Saatchi, New
Zealand, promoting the safety of skin products, featuring nude
actors,
is a far more revealing video. The film crew filmed nude in order to
put the cast more at ease. The video was launched on May 5th and has
created a rise of 500% in sales.
Air New Zealand’s creative director Craig Whitehead, deputy creative
director Craig Pethybridge, art director Janelle Herrick, copywriter
Lara Philips and agency producer Vicky O’Leary, as well as ‘Elave
Nothing To Hide’ were not deterred by the fact that ‘Nothing to Hide’
is the name of a well known 1981 porn film, that started with an
escape out of a window and ended with a tear-jerking finale.
Now if you are holding your breath watching the Air New Zealand
video,
waiting for some discrete nude revelation in the safety video, by
director Kevin Denholm, you are not only going to be disappointed you
will have missed the point. The video is about staff enjoying
themselves and having fun, as they take the most boring of subjects
and make it enjoyable. Airline passengers will have no difficulty
watching the video time and again.
The same thing could not be said concerning the ‘Elave Nothing To
Hide’ film. The company was forced to use a modified version for
television.
Rob Fyfe, Air New Zealand CEO, was recently voted the sexiest
businessman in New Zealand. I wonder why? Perhaps the whole thing
only
goes to prove, it‘s not what you say, it’s how you chose to present
it.
