I'm looking for a recommendation for a Final Cut jog shuttle control. Or, are they  even necessary?

Thanks. LV

Hey Larry,

I tried using the programmable mouse that came out a few years ago...I forget the name of it...it was not really a mouse at all...it was a flat controller with a job nob and like 8 programmable buttons.  I found more useless than it was helpful...I have just gotten so much faster with mouse and keyboard that I have lost the touch for the shuttle/jog nob of yesteryear.

I am sure it is a personal preference thing, but I really did not like it that much.  If I can find the one I had you are more than welcome to it to try it out if you like...I will dig thru the old use gear closet and see if I can find it.  Send me an address off list if you want and if I find it will be like Christmas early.

I use the Bella keyboard and i love it. I used to use a Shuttle Express but the keyboard has better software.

I'm an old online editor, so I need my shuttle knob. The bella keyboard works for me. peter tours, tnt video services, inc.

Thanks for the offer for the shuttle. Tim Baker graciously donated his shuttle pro which should be fine.

I used to be a tv news videographer/editor at WWSB in Sarasota back in the early 90's.
There used to be a Vaughan Video in Tampa, I used to get calls from people trying to find them, but it wasn't me.

I also have years of photojournalism experience working for various Florida newspapers and about 7 at the FSU Asolo Center for the Performing Arts in Sarasota as their contract photographer.

Now I'm learning Final Cut since back then there was no such thing. I was thinking of buying all the PeachPit Apple training books on the subject.

The book for Final Cut Express seems worthwhile, I'm wondering about the FCP training.

Apple has a certification program, is that something that people respect? There is only one person listed for Florida who has the master certification.

I've been editing since 1973 and started non-linear in 93 on Media 100 which I loved.

Everything I have learned about FCP came from 2 places: Reid Van Vohees (sic) @ Miami Dade College puts on a weekend intro course that is well worth the $350 it cost me about 2 years ago. And from Lynda.com which is a fantastic resource. The FCP programs by Larry Jordan are excellent - and there are dozens of hours.  Well worth the $25 a month.

That's my 2 cents...or nowadays, $2 :)

Hi Larry,

Training is always a good idea and especially important if you want
to teach. If you're applying for a post production position your demo
reel means more than credentials. It's also important to know
Photoshop, After Effects, Motion, DVD Studio, Soundtrack, and all
support applications including audio post.

Good luck,
