Subsidy for sugarcane growers

SRIKAKULAM: With a view to ensuring better returns to sugarcane growing farmers cultivating the crop under the jurisdiction of the factory, GMR Sugar Division, Sankili, announced subsidy for the 2009-10 season.

Spread over different heads, the subsidy would be Rs.10,000 per acre. For the farmers sowing between October and January 2010, a seed subsidy of Rs.6,000 per acre would be given. This would be applicable to farmers who supply total crop to the factory. A minimum of 20 tons per acre would have to be supplied to the factory. Other subsidies include Rs.2,000 to those who enter into agreement with the factory within 30 to 40 days of sowing, Rs.1,000 each for transport of seed and ploughing, according to a press release. For farmers sowing the seed between February and April 2010, a seed subsidy of Rs.5,000 per acre would be given.
