The Religion and Popular Culture Network began in 2005 and is a loose
affiliation of researchers, some of whom are located in the academy,
some in faith communities. Our purpose is to promote and support
anyone working in, or interested in, the interaction of popular
culture and religion, whatever form that takes.

Our next event is:

Sex, Friends and Emotional Highs: Religion and Theology Encounter
Popular Music
Thursday 13th September 2012 (4pm) to Saturday 15th September 2012 (12
noon)

Some main contributors:
In person: Joanne Cox (London), Clive Marsh (Leicester), Vaughan S.
Roberts (Warwick), Rupert Till (Huddersfield)

Via Skype or other means: Allan F. Moore (Surrey), Jeffrey Keuss
(Seattle)

Marsh and Roberts will reflect on their forthcoming book _Personal
Jesus: How Popular Music Shapes our Souls_, due out from Baker
Academic late 2012. Allan Moore (Professor of Popular Music at the
University of Surrey) will offer a response.

Cox and Till will reflect on three recently-published works (by Keuss
– Your Neighbor’s Hymnal, Scharen Broken Hallelujahs, and McClure
Mashup Religion).

All participants are invited to bring questions to pose, music to play
and insights to offer.

Queries about the event can be directed to Dr. Clive Marsh, Institute
of Lifelong Learning, University of Leicester (cm...@le.ac.uk). It may
be possible to offer researchers working directly on the theme of
religion and popular music the chance to offer a short paper within
the event.

The Network is currently working towards a major conference in early
July 2013, at which one of the founders of the Network, Prof. Gordon
Lynch, will be a main speaker. To express interest in this event,
please contact Clive Marsh at cm...@le.ac.uk

To be added to the Network’s mailing list, please contact Dr. Michael
