Hi,

Today we created a new record for a wireless point to point link....
137.2 miles!

We used Trango 2.4ghz AP/SU and we also did a Trango Atlas 5.8ghz link.

Both links used a 2ft dish (not 10ft or 12ft!).

www.wifiworldrecord.net has pictures and should have more information
posted in the next couple of days.

Using the Atlas 5.8ghz product, we achieved 2.3mbps doing an FTP
transfer!

The URL is "www.wifiworldrecord.net" but the equipment used is NOT WiFi.

So it's not a WiFi World Record.

Thank you

but of course, it will be necessary to change the timing of the MAC
in 802.11 to get any kind of reliability or throughput
out of a link this distance, so the whole point is moot.

I really like how the pictures on their website shows them having
cracked software and keygens ;)

News.com and Slashdot are reporting on this feat.

And as always, the Slashdot comments are a hoot. Like this one...
"Uhh, I'm pretty sure voyager 1 has the record for data transmission across
a wireless link."

We are going to need new categories for all these records:
ground-to-ground, ground-to-space, ground-to-air, space-to-space, etc. And
of course, licensed, unlicensed, proprietary, standardized, etc.

hmmm, let's call off whole 'wifi' distance record arms race...

I agree with Bruce Schneier's take: forget about the 802.11
shoot-out, the 69 foot passive RFID read by Flexilis is
the only thing worth talking about from now on.
Hopefully the state and federal legislatures will take due notice.
