In just a few days we’ll be kicking off our 2012 season of the “Secrets of New Haven” walking tours! We’re looking forward to offering some new features during these tours, online registration, and even some great limited edition items that go along with the tours!

By popular request from last year we have also decided to make all versions of our tours available to take during the season, rather than hosting specific tours at specific times. This means when you register you can now decide which tour you want to attend (ghosts, history, secret societies, etc.). Be sure to visit the new walking tour website at http://www.sgra.org/tours/for complete details.

Crystal & Stone Workshop

The Explorer’s Club price is $7.00 and will include a crystal & stone box craft

$15.00 / $10.00 for members
Pre-Registration REQUIRED

Tuesday we are hosting TWO versions of our fun and interactive Crystal & Stone Workshop at the Research Center. At 5:00pm we’re holding a special one for kids age 7 – 17 who are interested in the subject and may want to take part in our Paranormal Explorer’s Club. The there will be a workshop for all others starting at 7:00pm.

In this workshop we discuss properties of gems, crystals and stones and what they mean, then have a hands-on aspect where participants will learn how to "feel" the energy of these items. Participants will receive a handout of crystal and stone properties, take a "properties test" to determine what stones or crystals could be most beneficial to them, and create their own "stone vial" based on what they feel they need most - protection, energy, meditation, intuition, etc.

NASA and UFOs Coffee Talk

Wednesday at 7:00pm we launch our June Coffee Talks with a special look at NASA and UFOs. Since the first days of NASA's "off-planet" exploration there have been countless reported encounters with unidentified objects by astronauts in orbit. Numerous astronauts have gone on record with sightings they had, and while they don't all believe they were alien craft or some sort, they do continue to feel they were unexplained incidents.

Magickal Arts Class Series Begins Thursday

Magickal Arts Workshop Series

Thursday we kick off our next series of Magickal Arts Classes at the Research Center, and we’re once again expecting to have a great turnout and an interesting time during the classes. Last time we held this series of workshops it was hugely popular, and this time around we've added some new events, new guests, and lots of new things to learn!

Here is the listing of class dates and topics:

Class # 1 - Thursday, June 7
The Magickal Arts :: Covering the history, theory, and practice

Class #2 - Thursday, June 14
Nature Magick :: Using Nature In Our Magick

Class #3 - Thursday, June 28
The Tools & Practice of Magick

While we encourage participants to take part in the complete series, registration for individual workshops is allowed, however there are a few events which will be open to series-participants only, and also events are strictly limited to 10 people, so if we reach our limit there will not be individual spaces available.

COST FOR THE CLASSES

$50.00 for the series which includes all materials, and special -- $40.00 for SGRA Members

$20.00 per class which includes all materials but does NOT include the special added activities -- $15.00 for SGRA Members

Please note that registration is REQUIRED in advance for this series BY WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5. If you do not register before that date you WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FIRST CLASS as materials must be put together for the class.

Syfy Series Seeks Your Yale Ghost Stories

SGRA was contacted by researchers working on a new series set to air on SyFy called “School Spirits,” which (as if you couldn’t tell by the title) is going to focus on ghostly stories related to campuses throughout the United States. The producers say that the show will aim to share true ghost experiences through the testimonial of students, faculty, staff, and others involved.

This week we were contacted by researchers for the show who were interested in the work we’ve done digging in to the haunted history of Yale University, and some of the stories we share during our “Secrets of New Haven Tours” given throughout the Summer and Fall seasons.

Because the show sounds like it is taking a decent perspective on the ghost phenomena – not like many other shows that want to embellish or push up the “fright factor” of the experiences – we have agreed to help gather stories by inviting our viewers who have participated in our tours, or shared their Yale stories with us, to contact us for details on how your experiences can be shared with the producers of “School Spirits.” Currently, the show is looking to focus on Yale’s campus, however if you have a story from another Connecticut campus we invite you to contact us as well as we will help put you in touch with them, as they will be looking at story ideas for future episodes.

For more information feel free to contact us at sg...@sgra.org or (203)987-SGRA. Please note that you will need to provide at least one method of contacting you for the producers, as they won’t have much use for testimony and stories that are not submitted anonymously.
