On my latest project, where an architect wears multiple hats, the
following applies:
Q: Does an architect's role include project management ?
A: Yes, with regard to human aspects of project management, task
planning, and schedule of deliverables. This project lacks a software
development manager, hence the architect is involved with more than
just architecting. In general I've worked on the projects where a
delay was a direct result of poor communication between the architect
and the project manager.
Q: Does the architect have to assign tasks to members of the project ?
A: Absolutely if it relates to building / developing architecture.
Also applies if architect is overseeing the implementation of the
software. Project manager and architect work together with this regard
as well.
