to Fleet 37
Fellow Keelboat sailors
In 2005, as an officer of Windycrest Board of Govenors, I signed up two new members on the same afternoon. One had a very pretty Victoria 16 ( a traditional full keeled) keelboat. The other had a Coronado 15 ( a centerboard boat). The keel boat paid, $300 innitiation fee, $150 dry storage fee and a $250 membership fee. Total of $700.00. The Coronado 15 (centboard) paid No innitiation fee, no dry storage fee and joined the club for a $250 membership fee. Both were young engeneers with good incomes, both very desirable members but one took up the same space for $450 less money. The question was why?? So we changed the fee structure.
Now there is a proposal that would bring a return of that inequity to our club once again. I ask you to contact your board members and ask why a new member joining with a Thistle willl pay, only a $100 iniation fee and no dry storage fees ,while a new S20 member would pay $250 inniation fee and $150 dry storge fee for a differance of $300. We all want our fleets to grow but we need to start off on similar footing.
Contact your board members and let them know this is not a good thing, returning to the past. They claim that the centerboard fleets are not growing and need more incentive. Board boat now pay no dock fee's and no drystorage fees what so ever. That is an incredible incentive to join thoes fleets. Maybe we need a break for smaller boats that are used, and an increase on big centerboard that never move.
Respectfully
