This Thursday we will be working finishing the PRUSA 3D printer kit (www.reprap.org/wiki/Prusa_Mendel). I did try to order RAMPS 1.4 (pre-Assembled) from mixshop.com. However, I'm quite unhappy with their slow ordering process and response to e-mails. When I bought the item it was my understanding that they had it in stock so we would have the electronics for this Thursday, I now see in red at the bottom of the listing that it will be in stock on May 16. I sent them an e-mail and asked for my money back so I could buy one from someone on eBay, but they have not responded yet.

The main problem I had with the Ramps kit (electronics needed to run the 3D printer) is that it required to install surface mount electronics. I don't have the equipment to do surface mount. Since I wanted to build from scratch the PrintRbot (www.printRbot.com), the second ramps could be used on this 3D printer I believe.

To help advance the process of the future micro-controller group, I took the liberty and ordered the Weller WESD51 Digital Soldering Station. I don't know if this is the best one out there but it should get the job done. If anyone wants to work on building the Ramps 1.4 kit, feel free to come by and give it a try. Perhaps there is another method to install surface mount electronics.

Like always, the 3D printers are there if anyone wants to print an item.

I can pop the ramps set off my mosaic and bring it if you want something to test it with.

I also have a hot air reflow station that I could bring; if anyone has some solder paste (I'm out) we can roll through a surface mount build.

Ultimachine.com is in Pittsburgh - very fast shipping, of course only if they're in stock.  I'll try to make it in Thursday, too.

I figured out why it wasn't working Thursday night. My dumb a$$ connected your low current line to the 5v rail instead of 12v. The way that supply should be wired is with both connectors supplying 12v, one from the high current feed for the HBO (square plug) and one from the drive feed (flat plug) for the steppers. Move the hot wire on the flat plug from orange to yellow and it should work with the current pronterface setup. I have your config.ini set for the mosaic; you'll need to tweak it or download one for the prusa.

*HBP, not HBO.

Make that Pittsburg :) It's in Tennessee, no "H".

*mind blown*

Heh, sorry about that, sometimes I forget that Tennessee is more than a cheesy pickup line.

Semi-related, Radio Shack now carries arduinos including megas - and there's not much of a markup, $63.  No ramps, of course.
