Hackers, mackers, modders, or what have you....

Have you helped out a security B-sides in the DC or Greater DC area? I keep hearing about them in Chicago, Las Vegas, etc... are they ever here? Have you participated or ran an event?

Thanks

I heard some people talking about putting one together about two years ago opposite .... Something in January.  Don't remember.  Black Hat DC maybe?  Heard the speculation at Dojocon in 2010, but it was too short notice.  Haven't heard anything since then.  I think Tiffany had been throwing the idea around at that point in time.

A group of us from NoVA tried to set up a BSides DC/NoVA conference. A group who organizes a prominent security conference in the D.C. area told us that it would dilute the crowd and quality of presenters at their conference so the BSides Board denied our request to organize the conference. Instead of BSides, Marcus J Carey and I organized DojoCon.

That was 2 years ago; it may be possible to do it in the D.C. area now.

Good to know.

Now that I have posted my question to people it seems that the main reason is B-Sides has a Delaware conference and that there are some conference here in the MD/DC/VA area. Through my postings I found a neat site:  http://www.novainfosecportal.com/full-calendar/

This is pretty neat and shows many places to go learn.

It was awesome, but Marcus now lives in Texas.

Why not just do something original. Maybe in the summer when the weither is nice or spring even. The summer kind of sucks. But between novahacker and uas. I am sure you could have and awesome con.

A colleague pointed me to this thread, and so I wanted to post a brief
mention for RVAsec. Two of us decided to set up a new security con
(something original, we hope!) in Richmond, which is just a short
drive south for you guys :-)

We are trying hard to keep prices low, but have great speakers,
extras*, and some cool give-aways... but rather than go into a big
advertising post, I'll link to one instead. I hope you consider coming
down as with good attendance we hope to repeat next year. There is
training on 6/15 and the conference is 6/16.

Thanks for your time!

*one of the extras will be 'hackable' badges being made by hack.rva,
and they'll be in the vendor area as well if you want to meet up with
any of them.
