Hi everyone,

Is there anyone who can recognize the Greek melody that is the
counterpart of this klezmer tune? It was first recorded by klezmer
clarinetist Naftule Brandwein, who apparently played many
"oriental" (Greek, Turkish) melodies. In the klezmer world the melody
is called "Araber tanz":

Brandwein also recorded "Uskudar'a Gideriken", under the name "Der
Terk in Amerika":

Sorry Eva, I do not recognize the Araber Tanz melody as a greek tune.
Many related melodies come to my mind but not a specific one. The
introductory off rhythm melody resembles 'ta paidia tis amynas of
Xarchakos. Uskudar of course is very well known (apo xeno topo).

by the way, niko, the wellknown song tis amynis ta paidia from the
ferris-film is not by xarhakos. there is a take from 1918 by elliniki
estoudiantina called o makedon. same melody, same words! i have it in
my large (7000 songs) archive but do not know whereelse to find it. so
better try to post it up to the group-files.

by all means, please do so Levantis. The song is not registered in
the greek discography.

ok, you have already uploaded, I see. Plain copy, with minor changes
to the words. Any further particulars to the song? (label, cat. no.
etc.) It must be a large record since it goes for 4.18 minutes!

This one is much more in line with what I know from my grandpa. The
lyrics in the Ferris movie version were avoiding the parts about the
"germanós" kai "loxías sth Germanía".

Ελληνική εστουδιαντίνα. No further data. I 'd wish to know recording
year and place, as well as the title of the record's other side.
