On Friday, March 28th, the Borough of Manhattan Community College will

sponsor a one-day conference on both mathematics across the curriculum

(MAC) and quantitative reasoning (QR, also called “quantitative

literacy”). Speakers will include Bernie Madison (University of Arkansas),

Maura Mast (University of Massachusetts Boston), Bill Briggs (University of

Colorado at Denver), and Rebecca Hartzler (Edmonds Community College,

WA. In addition, a number of faculty from CUNY who are active in the

MAC/QR movement will make presentations. The conference, which will

include lunch, will be free of charge but limited in size. All CUNY

faculty, both math faculty and faculty from other disciplines interested in

QR and/or MAC, are invited to attend. For additional information and to

Not Just for the Math Classroom
Mathematical techniques are the key to solving many real-world problems. Consequently, the idea of literacy needs to be broadened beyond language to include quantitative reasoning.

College faculty, regardless of discipline, increasingly are buying into the idea of integrating mathematics in how they teach their classes. Mathematics faculty teaching courses in quantitative reasoning attempt to explain the use of mathematics in everyday life, on the job, and in the voting booth.

Join Us for A Free One-Day Conference
All CUNY faculty, both math faculty interested in QR courses and faculty from other disciplines interested in MAC activities, are encouraged to attend.

The conference will include presentations, panels, and poster sessions. Lunch will be served.

Registration in advance of the conference is recommended, since space is limited.
