I haven't heard any chatter about a January meeting. Are people
interested in having a meeting next Thursday?

GET ME OUT OF THIS HOUSE!

Yep, we are going to have the meeting next Thursday. Anyone have a topic ideas?

How about technologies that are worth learning/using this year?  Using cloud services to build an app, or how they affect app devs in richmond? A discussion about startup projects?

I think that looking at technologies worth learning this year would be a great topic, but this begs the question, what technologies are worth learning this year? In my opinion, client side JavaScript frameworks such as Backbone.js, Knockout, Amber.js, Batman,js, etc… are going to be the tools which the vast majority of developers should really start learning.

Being that they can be used across platforms and technology stacks, they really apply to almost everyone. I've been working quite a bit with Backbone.js, anyone using any other JS frameworks?

Our company just started using Hadoop and HBase and we plan on rolling them out to production within the next three months or so.  While I cannot present anything on it for next week - just coming up to speed myself - it really is a big change in the way we deal with data today.  In a few months when we are topic-less I will try to present something about HBase.

That would be awesome, I would love to hear more about your
implementation of HBase and Hadoop.

I know I've only been to one meeting - pretty lame.

But I've been having fun playing with Spring Roo to build Java based MVC websites and pushing it up to Heroku. Heroku also works with Ruby and Rails. I didn't like Ruby and Rails as much, but I know Java much better than Ruby, so I'm biased. Either one of these might be a cool topic, if someone knows a lot about it ( I'm still learning the in's and out's of Heroku ).

Note,
I didn't mean the meeting was lame, I meant I was lame for going to only one meeting.

:)

Ha, yeah, I figured as much...and I'd love to see how Heroku and Java work together!
