Departure of Mubashir Zaidi and Matiullah Jan from DawnNews?

Dear All,

 

It has been confirmed through reliable sources that DawnNews management and the not so new Director News Zahid Mazhar has finally decided to get rid of the gang of four (Mubashir Zaidi, Matiullah Jan, Azaz Syed and Shakoor Khan). Stories about Mubashir and the politics he played in DawnNews using three of his reporters have been circulating all around the industry.

Now the report has been confirmed that the gang of four have been asked to leave the organization on 1^st of June. Sources in Islamabad office are claiming that Matiullah Jan has already been asked to stop working and is hurriedly clearing his office belongings as his official car and mobile phone were already taken from him a couple of months back. Now he is trying to establish so-called Journalist Fund with a clear intention to embezzle in future. The sources revealed.

Mubashir Zaidi has been seen marching in and out of Resident Editor of Dawn Newspaper’s office in a bid to land himself a job in the newspaper. There have been reports from Karachi that the new team which will take over them had clearly told Zahid Mazhar that they will not work with Matiullah Jan or the likes of corrupt journalists like Azaz Syed and they would need to be cleared from the office before they take over.

There has been news from Karachi that Mubashir had been making frantic phone calls to Shakeel Masud (The CEO) because as per understanding Mubashir was to be kept safe while Mati, Azaz and Shakoor were to be fired. This understanding was reached the last time Zahid Mazhar & Shakeel Masud visited Islamabad office.

Sources in Karachi office also confirmed that neither CEO nor DN made phone calls to the four guys to be fired but it was an HR executive who called them up telling them that their letters are ready to be dispatched and it would be better if they resign.

Mubashir Zaidi also met Zaffar Siddiquie, CEO of SAMAA in a bid to land himself a job there but Siddiquie had already been very much aware about the game Mubashir and his gang played in DawnNews and hence, he did not give them any green signal. Sources claimed.

The still to be launched ‘Capital TV’ of Ahmed Riaz Sheikh has also refused Mubashir Zaidi when he visited the TV office and requested to work as the DN. Sources said that Sheikh was also already warned that Mubashir will try to build his lobby there and get some people in at high salaries and the same happened as Mubashir tried to convince Sheikh into bringing in Matiullah Jan at 200,000 per month along with Shakoor and Azaz Syed at 150,000 per month. The door was closed on Mubashir the same minute.

"No confirmation as to who is joining DawnNews has been received yet but yes, drumrolls for Mubashir Zaidi and the three stooges." A employee working at DawnNews Islamabad office informed on the condition of anonymity.

I personally know Matiullah Jan and had been working with him in
Islamabad. He is an honest journalist, non-intriguing and always
supporting for the new comers in this profession. You must have some
misunderstanding about Matiullah Jan or someone has given you biased
info about Mati.

The language of this email is clearly showing that the writer has some
personal enmity with Mati & Azaz which maybe because in past the
author (who sent this email to Jawad USA to publish it here from his
account) of this email was boot out from Dawn on the charges of
"pimping" ;-)
2nd thing I worked with all of them for 4 years and seven months so I
know Mati very well, he is honest and upright person who took the risk
to do a popular show apna gareban in which he exposed the corruption
of media and still paying the price of that program in shape of these
blaming emails. Azaz is also honest, I never found him doing something
suspicious. He is a good investigative journalist who always have good
informative sources, Mati is also a very very mature journalist who
know his job how to cover a story in a balance way. Anyway my best
wishes are still with Dawn News and the team of Islamabad bureau. I
still believe and pray that no body should jobless.

 Please ask your friends to contradict the following information. And if they do, I assure you to provide documentary evidence of misdeeds of these three stooges who masquerade as journalists:
Moreover, DawnNews management took the decision to fire Matiullah Jan, Azaz Syed immediately and Abdul Shakoor Khan at a later stage after internal inquiry proved their corruption and conduct unbecoming of professional journalists.
Sources close to Dawn TV management say Azaz Syed is being fired for allegedly being on the pay roll of an intelligence agency and using the platform of Dawn to propagate the dirty games of intelligence agencies. Don't worry about his future. He is likely to use his close relationship with Rehman Malik to get back into APP, the same government news agency where he was earlier inducted on sifarish of former information minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed. Close friends of Azaz Syed like Ali Sher have confimed on the emails of Press Pakistan how Rehman Malik had given thousands of rupees to Azaz Syed on his wedding.
In addition to false reporting and filing baseless stories on DawnNews, Azaz Syed has been charged with doing two jobs without seeking the management's permission.
Abdul Shakoor Khan, who reports for foreign organisations under a different name like alias Abdul Shakoor Raheem etc, has been caught minting dollars without seeking any formal approval. The management had warned all employees not to do any other job other than that of Dawn TV. However, Abdul Shakoor khan ignored the warning and his logs were investigated on instructions of the new editor Zahid Mazhar. As the story goes, Zahid Mazhar wanted to fire Shakoor alongwith the other two stooges, Azaz and Mati, but with held the same for the time being as Dawn would be without a reporter who can cover the Supreme Court.
The less said about the leader of the stooges Matiullah Jan, the better it would be. Matiullah Jan is facing fifth drumming out ceremony of his career. He has already been drummed out from Pakistan Military Academy Kakul, Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, PTV and Reuters. Matiullah Jan has been accused by the Supreme Court of stealing important documents. Although he tried to bully the Supreme Court's Human Right's Cell, Dawn sources confirmed  that his conduct and reply to the Supreme Court was wrong and created problems for Dawn media group.
Matiullah and Azaz are leaving DawnNews on June 1st and many an emoloyee in the irganisation have heaved a sigh of relief that the three stooges, who were protected and patronised by Mubashir Zaidi are finally exposed and shown the do

Matiullah Jan has confirmed his sacking from DawnNews to
JournalismPakistan.com. It has also been confirmed by the website that
what Jawad wrote here on presspakistan is true. Once again Jawad has
brought to us exclusive news on presspakistan. The question is, why is
dawn firing these employees if the allegations leveled against them
are not true. Yes Sara, we would love to see some evidence. They
themselves would not have the guts to contradict and then live with
shame.

ISLAMABAD: Hard-hitting journalist Matiullah Jan told
JournalismPakistan.com on Friday night that it was untrue he had been
fired by the DawnNews management and asked to clean out his office
immediately. At the same time Mati hinted this status could change in
a week’s time.

Earlier, throughout Friday, reports of Mati being one of three big
names to be sacked by DawnNews spread through the industry like
wildfire. It had been reported that Mati, host of the controversial
but hugely popular Aapna Gareban, had been shown the door along with
Mubashir Zaidi, Editor DawnNews, and Azaz Syed.

Strangely enough this information was confirmed by Dawn insiders as
well as sources in other news channels, including Geo and ARY.

It was said Mati was targeted because of his almost ‘missionary-like’
zeal to reveal the ‘truth’ about the media, politicians, and judiciary
and of course, the military. Aapna Gareban is seen by many to have
precipitated Mati’s downfall. In the program, which drew both extreme
criticism and rave reviews, Mati exposed corrupt journalists.

Mati has a reputation of being a straight talker and this trait has
ruffled more than a few feathers in all four areas of interest.

On the other hand, insiders at DawnNews say Mati was part of a ‘power
lobby’ that did not sit well with the management and especially with
the new Director News Zahid Mazhar. They say Mati, Mubashir and Azaz
have been told their last working day was May 31st.

This could fit with Mati’s assertion that his status might not be the
same in a ‘week’s time.’

While Mubashir has been reportedly running from pillar to post,
meeting with the heads of news channels in a bid to land a job, Mati
has put forward the idea for establishing a journalists’ emergency
fund, a sorely needed respite for many media persons going through a
difficult phase such as being jobless, especially at a time when most
news channels and newspapers have been going through downsizing.

While his proposal has largely been greeted enthusiastically and
considered a meaningful and badly needed initiative, there exists a
certain lobby bent on discrediting Mati and accusing him of attempting
to make “a quick buck.” Those that know Mati say this accusation is
the result of envy and vindictiveness.

Mubashir, it has been learned tried to meet Dawn Editor Zafar Abbas to
land a job, but was not successful. He is also said to have tried to
approach Zafar Siddiqui, the owner of Samaa and CNBC but got the cold
shoulder.

Meanwhile, resignation letters have reportedly been prepared for Mati,
Mubashir and Azaz, according to a source within DawnNews HR. The three
have been given up till May 31st to resign. If they do not,
termination letters will be issued.

Industry watchers are waiting with bated breaths to see what happens.
The buzz is that the trio will resign and that it is the only option
open.

Amid qualitatively deteriorating standards of journalism one feels better off to be a silent spectator in presence of predominantly non-professional and nincompoop  journalists that too on the helm of affairs. But sometimes things reach to the limit to compel one to break the silence.
I know Mubashir Zaidi, he is an honest and committed journalist and a good human being. If he has left Dawn News, it must be a big loss for the organization.
I dont know Matiullah Jan in person, but I have watched his bold and upright programs and could vouch for him too that he is also such a journalist, the fraternity should be proud of.
Lets discuss something more productive.

Well Mr. Hameed let me tell you a little bit rest you have to guess the names.. one is a pimp worked with Dawn News and got fired last year July, one is his customer fired from Dawn News last December and now both are part of a news channel situated on Margallla road.. third is a journalist part of the same channel and running his news website too and famous for his texting to the interns of Dawn News.. So when the gang of three exposed and git fired on the above mentioned proved allegations they made fake id's and started mailing on this forum to malign the honest journalists Mati & Azaz ;-)

No you are wrong Ashraf - since I am in this advertising business I know the other side of story.   This is nothing to do with journalists or    The quality of work they produce – the central idea is domination of marketing side in the organisation.   Till now Dawn  had been the only media where ads could not decide the merits of any news item.   Now with regular ups and downs and sidelining of seasoned journalists like Mubashir and Matiullah, besides firing a large number of many reporters and people at assignment desk the whole game is now in the hands of Bilal Agha – the regional head of admn and marketing.   While there seems to be financial crisis in Dawn news for the editorial side – Bilal Agha has been honored with a 20 percent raise and a company sponsored vacation in Ras ul Khaima – UAE.   This way through the treats of downsizing now whosoever replaces the current Dawn News staff or even if the team stays but they will always be under pressures to respect the demands of marketing department as they want.   The powers are shifting. --- On Sat, 5/26/12, Ashraf Khan <ashra...@gmail.com> wrote:
