Abdul Qadir Hajizai, who had been working with a private Balochi language TV channel, WASH TV, for the last two years, was heading home when armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on him in Basima area of Washik district in Balochistan. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.
PFUJ Secretary-General Amin Yousuf has called on the Balochistan government to take notice of the rising number of cases of journalists' killing.
"The situation in Balochistan in deplorable, and the provincial government should take serious steps to ensure security of journalists," he said, adding that "PFUJ would launch a countrywide protest against the Balochistan government for failing to control the rising incidents of journalists' killing."
In a statement, Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) has appealed to the chief justices of Supreme Court and Balochistan High Court to take notice of the killing of journalists in the province.
Meanwhile, the PFUJ has also condemned the firing on the house of president of Turbat Press Club Irshad Akhtar.
No one was injured in the attack.
Irshad Akhtar said that he had neither received any threats from any group or individual nor did he have any enmity.
