First of all i want to congrat to Miss Aneda Shaheen newly elected general secretery of  KHUJ union of journalists and secondly i also thankful to all members of KHUJ who supporting and casting vote to Miss Aneda Shaheen to became her general scretery of KHUJ.I hope nextyear we shall see a women president of Peshawar Press Club.

Dear colleagues,

In every city, couple of journalists from women folk contribute their due share in the union activity or activism of the PFUJ and Press Club. In my 25 years of journalism and active trade unionism, I have found them more reliable, honest and easy to work with. We should encourage more women to join the main stream...by not projecting and encouraging couple of them and same one all the time and getting what we had...the professional leadership...but keep on changing and exploring new talent. They should also be considered for top positions amongst those who had been served against some lower office ( G.S., Joint secretary, Finance Secretary or even Executive council members) ...I am sure they can contribute more to the collective cause. Well done Nabila...wish you all the best!

Dear Colleagues,

The mail in the chain returned to me and on second reading I noted two things, one that I wrote Nabila while  it is Aneela (Sorry Aneela) Second it is high time that a woman is elected to this important office while it won't be justified to ignore the importance of KhUJ being the first to elect the Secretary General of PFUJ.

 

It was KhUJ playing host to BDM in which Ms. Fauzia Shahid was elected Secretary General of PFUJ for the first time. She had served PFUJ as Senior Vice President as well and may grab the top position one day if asked by the friends or the group to contest for the slot one day.

 

Before Fauzia Shahid, there was Farida Hafeez, very active lady which, I think never occupied any office except member executive body but was respected not less than President and chaired so many joint sessions and her opinion was always given due regard by all the Presidents and Chairmen of PFUJ and APNEC. Even today she commands respect and regard for his honesty and commitment to the cause of the Barna group and journalists (One of the same things, I believe).

 

Similarly Beena Sarwar, Waseem Fatima, Tamseela Chishti, Atiya Zaidi  and several others in Lahore, Guinever David and couple of others in KUJ are doing their part in their respective unions.

 

The need is that the woman folk should be encouraged and should be motivatd to contest and for that they should be given fair chance to prove their wit in this noble task as Nisar Osmani Sahib used to put it, "Yeh (Trade unionism) ustron ki maala hai".

Tis fo your information that Fozia Shahid remained secretary general and Senior Vice President and Assistant secretary generl of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists. Mohtarma Freeda Hafiz also elected assstant secretary gerneral of PFUJ many time. She also remained vice chairman of APNEC, so it is not first time a lady was elected general secretary of a plant union of PFUJ.

Thank you for pointing out that it is not the first time that any woman journalist was elected to a union of journalists.

 

There are many woman journalists  who had been elected to journalist bodies and had worked hardly on a part with the same zeal and performance as of any male journalist.

 

The election of Aneela is not something new. Some people are deliberatly circulating this impression that as if she is the only woman elected to a union of journalists' seat.
