Subject: Complete image appearing instead of face.
I encounter a problem when trying to add name tags on the "Add name
tag" pages. Instead of have a list of "zoomed in" faces appearing,
complete images are appearing.

It's slow, and I cannot tell what face is to be "tagged", so its
useless...

I am having the some problem.

I think this is because those images were uploaded "as is", not
reduced to 1600x1200 or lower.

Apparently this is an annoying bug. Fix it please!

Don't know if that is the origin of the problem. I have successfully
tagged a few hundred photos before I started having this problem. And
I don't think all of them were "resized"...

Same problem here, which is frustrating as it was working so well last
week. I'd been raving about it to friends over the weekend, attempted
to tag them in a new album on Monday but then... alas.

Bit surprised there's been radio silence from Google on this, given
it's one of the flagship features from the relaunch.

Hmmm.....interesting. I'd like to look into this a bit more. Could you
guys (and anyone new experiencing this issue) provide me with some
additional info please?

- Were you able to add name tags successfully prior to this? (some of
you have mentioned you were)
- What browser and OS are you using?
- Do you use the Picasa client to upload pictures? If so, which
version and build are you using?
- Would you mind if I followed up individually should I need a
screenshot from some of you?

Cheers,

Sam

It is broken 3-4 days already

I try firefox 3, google chrome and IE6

I try both picasa3 and web upload. Both broken.

Yes, all my faces (over 3000) had been tagged prior to this. The
problem has appeared over a week ago in my case.

- What browser and OS are you using?

Google Chrome & Firefox 3 in Windows XP

- Do you use the Picasa client to upload pictures? If so, which
version and build are you using?

Picasa 3 (Build 57.19,0). Photos were successfully uploaded with
picasa 3 and faces showed correctly for a long while after.

- Would you mind if I followed up individually should I need a
screenshot from some of you?

Please do - let me know exactly what you'd like a screenshot of and I
will send.

In my case, I have an additional problem - ever since this error
appeared, I decided to tag one more face (my wife's) manually (as it
had not been recognised in the photo by picasaweb). Once I did that,
the total number of times my wife appears in photos has dropped from
600+ to just 1 (the one I added). Luckily the photos are still there,
and they still show her tags, but on the "People" tab, her tally shows
as 1. As an added consequence, she is no longer on of the top 6
"people in my photos" on the main picasaweb page. Quite annoying.

Hope this gets resolved soon - cheers!

Ben

Hi,

I do experience similar problems...

> - Were you able to add name tags successfully prior to this? (some of
> you have mentioned you were)

Yes, I tagged lot of pics without any problem.
Please have a look here, which describes my problem:
http://picasaweb.google.com/kristofer.jakobsson/NameTagging#
The thing that goes wrong now is that:
Screen dump 1. "These photos are hard to match. Add a name tag to
faces that you recognize."
So I was thinking that it could not recognize the faces in the
photos... (Also includes firefox version)
Screen dump 2. But if I use the full picture, you can see that a face
is marked in a box, just like before this problem arrised.
Screen dump 3. Picasa version screen shot.

> - What browser and OS are you using?

Firefox 3.0, please see the above screen dump for details. WinXP Pro.

> - Do you use the Picasa client to upload pictures? If so, which
> version and build are you using?

Version 2.7, please see the above screen dump for more details.
Please note that most of my photos have been uploaded long ago...

> - Would you mind if I followed up individually should I need a

No, please let me know what more info you need.

Finally, took you a week to notice this.
http://groups.google.com/group/PicasaWebAlbums/browse_thread/thread/4...
and a few other threads.
Why can't Google finally get this "user feedback" thing right? It's
probably too simple for you...

Now, to the point. I see this on 3 different computers, on IE6, IE7,
FF3, and Chrome. All have Picasa2 installed but not used for quite
some time. All are Win XP SP2. All are in Israel.

The face tagging worked as promised for a few days, I was able to use
it just fine (lost a few emails to your "one email only" bug, too).
Since about a week ago, when a page with the "cluster" loads, the
squares below the filmstrip (which are supposed to show a face cut
from each image) show the complete image, scaled to the dimensions of
the little square, without resepcting the aspect ratio.

You are welcome to contact me. No need to give you my email, I guess.
You even know my cell phone number, do call, but keep the time
differences in mind. You are even welcome for a visit, if you'd like a
bit of a hot weather.

Tried both Safari in Mac OS 10.5, and Windows XP with Chrome and IE6.

And me!

I synced 3000 pictures from Picasa 3 on my XP Pro SP3 home PC to
Picasa Web Albums about a week ago. First couple of days name tags
were working brilliantly, tagged 2000 faces and then, four or five
days ago, it stopped displaying faces in 'add name tags' and instead
began displaying a thumbnail of the whole picture, meaning it is now
impossible to know which face Picasa is proposing to tag.

I've also had the same problem as Hypershadow - at the same time the
'add name tags' function stopped working properly, Picasa Web Albums
also lost count of the number of tags for some of my most photographed
subjects. For example the 'People' view was previously showing that
I'd tagged over 700 pictures of my son, whereas now it's giving a
count of 24! If I click on him it still brings up hundreds of photos,
but this is still an annoying glitch.

Since these problems began I've tried accessing my web albums via FF3
and IE7 with the same results.

I would also be more than happy to be contacted directly to have this
resolved!!

Here's hoping you can find a solution...

information and screenshots you all provided. I'll have a look with
the team here and post any updates as I have them. With regard to the
name tag count not working properly, it's a known issue that we're
currently looking into. I've asked people to stay tuned here:

Having exactly the same problem in the last couple of days, before
this the individual zoomed faces would appear and the system did a
good job of recognizing multiple occurances of the same person. I have
successfully 'name tagged' a large number of photos and the system was
easy to use.  Now it is virtually impossible to use and there are more
errors than correct allocation of names to faces..

What browser and OS are you using?
IE 7 and Vista

Do you use the Picasa client to upload pictures? If so, which

> version and build are you using?

Picasa Vers 2.7 Build 37.49.0 which is the same as I have used to
upload all of the albums

Please feel free to contact me

To answer your questions for me: it always happens to all photos: they
all display a thumbnail of the full image, rather than just the face,
in all the clusters.

The thumbnail above the cluster (that has the arrow on the bottom of
it) is just a face, but not the thumbnails in the cluster.

I've submitted 4 locations to your spreadsheet but I have tagged 784
images and it's happened on everyone.

Just a thought: these images have been uploaded using Picasa's sync
feature - I'll try uploading directly and see what happens

Hi

This always happens to every single photo (no matter what resolution
they may be). Every cluster shows this problem (In other words I
haven't seen an individual face since this started).
I pasted a couple links to the thumbnails as you requested - as you
can see, the thumbnails themselves are actually the full quality
photos! In picasaweb they are simply shrunk down to the size of the
thumbnails (but not resized), ie. each time picasaweb tries to show a
face, instead it downloads the entire full quality photo and squeezes
it into the small box.

Hope this info helps a bit!

It's happening to me using any browser: Safari, Iceweasel, Google
Chrome, Firefox.
And it's happening on every picture I uploaded (from the web or from
the Mac Uploader)
And finally, it's happening on every pictures, even the ones which
displayed correct thumbnails before.

Thanks for looking into it.

I posted about this problem in another thread, but I'll answer your
questions here (my answers are basically the same as everyone else's).

First batch of questions:

- Were you able to add name tags successfully prior to this? (some of
you have mentioned you were)
Yes.

- What browser and OS are you using?
Firefox 3.0.1 and Safari 3.1.2 on two different computers, both
running Mac OSX 10.5.4.

- Do you use the Picasa client to upload pictures? If so, which
version and build are you using?
I used the official Picasa plug-in for iPhoto.

- Would you mind if I followed up individually should I need a
screenshot from some of you?
Please feel free to follow up.

Second batch of questions:
- Does this always happen to the same 1) photo? or 2) group of photos?
3) what happens when you scroll through to the next cluster? same
thing?
It happens to all photos and all clusters, although, as others have
mentioned, the "cluster-switcher" at the top shows the faces
correctly.

- Could you please send me the URL of some of the affected thumbnails?
The best way to do this is to right click on the thumbnail/thumbnails
in the cluster view > select 'Copy Image Location' > copy and paste
into the following form:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?key=pmrbYUOpwQgnWCaidG9QoaA
Done!

Thanks for working on this!  We're all eagerly awaiting a
resolution! ;)

I think we can safely assume that the problem is unrelated to
operating systems and browsers. I've personally seen it on FF3/Safari
on OS X, and FF3 on Win2000. Lots of other reports widely ranging
combinations were this is broken.

Also, the first time I tried name tagging it worked as expected,
something has clearly changed.

Same story here, seems independent of OS/Browser/upload method to
me...
It started about a week ago, I also noticed shortly prior to this
starting that the face recognition setting in my profile was turned
off again, although I'd actvivated and succesfully used it before...

Would be nice if that could get fixed, face tagging is a great
feature, but like this it's not really usable... especially on the
"hard to recognize" ones, where you see the same pic 3 times and need
to enlarge all of them to find out what face you're actually
tagging...

Oddly for me, I have the problem at home but not in the office. Both
machines Google Chrome - Official Build 2200 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U;
Windows NT 6.0; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.13 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/
0.2.149.30

At home I get the thumbnail. In the office I get the cropped face. At
home I have to see the full photo to see what part is tagged.

For me this problem is very strange.

From my XP laptop using Chrome, Firefox, or IE I am getting the full
photo instead of the faces in all cases, but when I move to my Vista
desktop using the same account I get the faces.
