I found this group expecting a veritable hive of activity. but
nothing... and I have the hono(u)r of starting the very first thread.
Crikey!!
OK I had the chance recently to see a folk concert at Spring Grove on
the (New) Jersey Shore
with Christine Lanvin, Tom Paxton, the reunited Chad Mitchell Trio with
Chad himself and PP and M, as they were so billed (they retained the
three microphones the CMT had used) but although Peter and Paul put on
a great show the best part was hearing the lady on their merchandise
counter outside saying that Mary was recovering and should make a
December 9th Carnegie Hall concert. Peter comfirmed this and said the
bone marrow transplant had been successful and (I think this was how he
phrased it)
"Mary now had no leukemic cells in her body"

Welcome! Wow! I've searched for a similar group in vain for years but with
no luck. Tons of Kingston Trio sites. It is clear to me that PP&M is one
of the best loved groups of all time but nothing out there. So I just
organized that site in the hope that there were others who might be
interested. I'm hoping to exchange information and experiences.

Thanks for joining and for the info. I will make my arrangements for the
December Concert today! I've been to eight PP&M concerts. Got drunk with
Gordon Lightfoot at about the time he cut his first album. Ian Tyson was a
friend long ago.

Will write more informational stuff soon.

Thanks again for joining.

Amazing Michael,I did not really expect any response and certainly not
so soon.Yes I was amazed not to find an active discussion group; as
amazed as I was back in 1997 when on my very first visit to the
internet I searched for Gordon Lightfoot and found a few sites

I believe I saw PP and M in the UK in the early 60's in concert once
certainly the day I flew from London to Montreal 6 April 1964 my friend
and I had to wait at the door out to the plane to let PP and M pass
into the building a real close up I have looked at
http://www.peterpaulandmary.com/
and seen that the news on Mary there is not as up to date as what we
heard on Auguist 27th
at the concert outlined at:-
http://www.peterpaulmary.com/gallery/f-news.htm
Mary's last mesage on the 28th said
P.S. We'll be touring next year!
I was of course most interested to read

"Got drunk with
Gordon Lightfoot at about the time he cut his first album"

Presumably you meant back in the 60's ?? The Way I Feel album??
or 70's If You Could Read My Mind?
But as I also see that you practice in Burlington VT perhaps you
visited Tronno ??
Gord of course thankfully quit drinking in 1983
But we saw him in April at the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas and he spoke
to a lot of us after the concerts in the bar outside the theatre
I remember Burlington quite well as towards the end of my nearly 6
yrears in Muntreal we often drove to Plsttsburg and then through your
city early on a Saturday morning for "Canadian skiing" day at
Smuggler's Notch/Madonna Mountain
Such great memories!!
I do hope you visit the two Lightfoot message boards I gave the links
to and post some reminiscences of the time you drank with Gord

Gord and I got royally hammered at a dive called The Snake Pit in Hull, QC,
which is a working class town across the river from Ottawa where he was
performing at a trendy coffee house call Le Hibou or something like that.
Probably in the summer of '68; maybe '67. He had just released, "I'm not
saying." We ducked out between his sets, started drinking heavily and
forgot about his show until we were really late and really wasted. It was
pretty bad and, as people were leaving, he introduced me as a rising
American folk singer and invited me up to back him up on a couple of
standards hoping to get the dwindling audience to join in. Even though it's
one of my fondest memories, I still cringe when I think of how bad we
sounded.

HI Mike
Many thanks for elaborating on your Lightfoot anecdote which I trust
you wil not mind that I have repeated it on the most active Lightfoot
discussion board in a new topic on P:P and M and the relevent folk
music concert we attended see:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=003392;p=1#000000
I concluded by speculating on whether you yourself could attend the
upcoming (October 20th ) Lightfoot concert in Northampton MA??
The original alt.music.lightfoot Newsgroup posting is at:-
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.music.lightfoot/msg/d36dfae8bf4d0fc1
click on "show options" then :view thread" to see several responses
and some indication that "front row center" where we also have tickets
is going to be rather crowded!!
there is anothere recent corfid posting at:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=003368#000003

I have checked the Calvin Center site for tickets and there appear to
be plenty of tickets still available
(unbelievably because all his recent shows have been sold out way in
advance)
unless I misread rhe chart unsold seats include some in the front row
see the details at:-

John,

Thanks for your note. Will respond more over weekend. In the meanwhile,
would you please send PP&M video of early morning rain. (I am a fanatic.)
Thanks.
