The Earl of Aylesford died in hospital, 19 February, 2008. He was 89.
His home was at Packington Old Hall, near Coventry.
Charles Ian Finch-Knightley, 11th Earl (Peerage of GB 1714) was born 2
Nov 1918, son of the 10th Earl of Aylesford
(1886-1958), by his wife the former Aileen Boyle (d 1977); he was
educated at Oundle; Career:->Capt The Black Watch, served in the
Second World War 1939-45 and was wounded; succeeded to the peerages on
the demise of his father, 20 March, 1958; JP for Warwickshire; Lord
Lieutenant of the West Midlands, 1974-1993; Warwickshire County
Commissioner for the Boy Scouts Assoc 1949-74, since when Patron;
KStJ; a member of the Advisory Committee of the World Wildlife Fund
since 1970; married 1946, Margaret Rosemary (d 1989), dau of Maj
Austin Arnold Tyer, MVO, TD, by whom he had issue, a son Charles
Heneage, styled Baron Guernsey, b 27 Mar 1947, who now succeeds to the
family honours, and 2 daus, Lady Sarah and Lady Clare. Service of
Thanksgiving on May 9th at St James's Church, Great Packington.
