One of the ends for the traveler on our P40 is broken, this is what the "good" one looks like. Anyone know where to get these parts? I've been trying to get one from Rig Rite, but it's like pulling teeth!

Might be time to think about putting a "pedestal at each end and installing a nice straight track traveler on. Worked great on Caribbean soul.

We had a new traveller made by Garhauer, send our old traveller to be matched.  It fits great and works much better.  No more complaints from the admiral about jibes.

Beginning to think a new traveler may be the way to go. I understand the better mechanics of the straight track, but my wife and I both don't like the aesthetics.

Did Garhauer curve and drill the new traveler to match, or did you drill new holes in the hatch cover to match the new traveler. I'm assuming there's flat bar or something glassed into the hatch cover that is drilled and tapped for the traveler screws.

Rember with the curved track you get the fun of letting off the main sheet before you can let out the main, hard work and potentially dangerous. I learned to like the look the first time I let out the main out and brought it back to the centerline with little effort. Beautiful.

Eric, that would be excellent! Since we are also in the Lower Mainland (we're currently on the hard at Shelter Island) I could pick it up when you have it off the boat. With all the other work we're doing to the boat, I'd rather not deal with a new traveler system right now.

We also recently replaced our traveler with a Garhauer. Aside from the
absurdly tedious necessity of drilling out every single machine screw
that held the old traveler down (due to galling and/or galvanic
corrosion), the process was awesomely simple and quick.

Once I had drilled out all those screws, I removed the old traveler,
popped it into a heavy-duty UPS box, and shipped it to Garhauer. About a
week later, I got a UPS shipment from them and, within an hour, had the
new traveler installed. Well, except...

Garhauer had custom-drilled all of the holes to align with those in the
old traveler. The kink was that the traveler cars were slightly too wide
for the place where the traveler screw holes were and the cars jammed
against the "lip" immediately forward of the companionway hatch. I
immediately (it's still less than two hours after UPS delivered the
package to me) phoned Garhauer. They promise to ship me new cars
immediately and I could ship the old cars back to them at my leisure.
Two days later, the new cars arrived, I installed them without trouble,
and later shipped the old cars back.

I am tremendously impressed with Garhauer, with their hardware, and with
their service.

Highly recommended!
Jim

P.S., Works a treat, too!

Think I would replace the whole thing with a new one. I did after my traveler car broke. Needed a torch and impact driver to remove bolts.

Hi guys.  I helped Don Fife on his traveller for a bit.  You need a really GOOD impact driver, big hammer.  P b blaster, wd40, Only use hardened bits of the right size like Snapon.  We got them all out.
