Hi All

A question about knees.

Ours on " Samsara” were modified by a previous owner. Unfortunately the new beefed up larger knee fwd extends down thru the Pullman berth. A chunk has been cut out of the edge of the mattress to accommodate it. We want to replace the mattress and would love to be able to avoid having to chop into the new mattress but still have the structural strength maintained.

Also a little bit of extra bed wouldn’t go amiss in the tropics!!

How have others with the Pullman berths got around this one?

Thanks Herman, We had looked at your site earlier and your modification, but we would still need the cut out in the mattress. We are more wanting to find out if anyone has strengthened the knees without adding to the length. The aft knee is fine as that only protrudes into the top corner of the mattress. Great site, thank you for posting it.

Steve,

I had the port middle knee (aft one over the mattress) rebuilt to about the same size. It was not only detaching from the hull but also pretty rotten. Both middle knees are now glued and bolted to the bulkhead behind them, with lots of fiberglass reinforcement to reattach them to the hull. The same covers fit over them. Others have built larger knees and/or used some type of beefier attachment to the hull – and then had to make new covers. I think I just reinforced the fiberglass tabbing on the port forward knee, as the knee itself was OK. That pullman berth is small enough without having to fight with more knees…

Hi
Not sure if we are talking about the same knee here!  Hopefully the photo will explain all. We are wondering if this was an "overkill " on the part of a previous owner!

I am looking to buy or have  springs manufactured for an old Schaeffer Rope clutch with I don't believe is any longer supported by repair parts.  It is a block of 3 clutches.  In any case was wondering if anyone had an old Schaefffer clutch to sell (with springs) or perhaps had experience getting springs manufactured.  Trying to avoid the pain of taking of old clutch and installing a new one as it looks like a potentially messy job.  Thank you.

Try smallparts.com (now part of Amazon). I got new springs for lifeline pelican hooks there.
