If you have not already gotten an invite, please come to the
LambStravaganza, our annual potluck on Angel Island in San Francisco Bay

There may be 300 attending, and the POA forms a good backbone of the effort!

Shoot. Once again I'm not going to be there. I love lamb. I can eat
a lot of it. One of these years. So, keep it going Michael!

Has anyone installed a new thru-hull so that they can give me an idea of the hull thickness? I was thinking of keeping the original datamarine depth sounder on my 1986 Passport 37, and installing a second depth sounder as backup using an IN-HULL transducer so I do not have to deal with putting another thru hull in the boat. I understand that the in-hull types will not read thru fiberglass that is over an inch thick. I was investigating using a stand alone Humminbird unit that has the new "down imaging" technology is supposed to give a 3 dimension type view of underwater structures, but the in-hull transducers I am told will not read thru any glass over 1" thick. Any thoughts or has anyone tried to replace the original datamarine unit using the same thru hull without any modification???

Changes as you move upward from the waterline. At our waterline (P40, 1984) it's about 1-1/8".   Solid hulls can handle shoot-though-hull transducers.

Consider a forward-looking type. Worth it's weight. I don't care about the depth of what I've already hit, even in 3-D!

Patch the old hole and install what you want. Don't leave the old transducer in since the can fail and leak.

I've put in several now and it's no big deal.
