Saturday May 3, 2008 at 7:30PM, the final house concert of the season
at The Captain Charles Leonard House, 663 Main St, Agawam, Ma 01001
will see an extraordinary young Celtic fiddler from Sydney Mines, Nova
Scotia Canada.
Kimberley Fraser will be presenting a wonderful evening of traditional
Scottish and Irish fiddle tunes. She will also delight the audience
with renditions of this music on the piano and offer examples of
traditional Scottish step dancing.
Her most recent recording "Falling on New Ground" was nominated and
won the award for Best Traditional Roots recording at The East Coast
Music Awards in Canada this year. She has exquisite technique and a
delightful personality.
Kimberley will be accompanied by Mark Simos, a professor at Berklee
School of Music in Boston, who will be playing guitar. Mark is one of
the most respected accompanist's in Celtic music in the United States,
known for his inventive and subtle chord movement, varied textures and
tunings. A veteran of the seminal '70s Irish music scene in
California, Mark toured the United States as a member of Knock Na
Shee, the first American band playing Irish music to record for the
prestigious Shanachie label (Last Night's Fun, 1979). Since then, Mark
has accompanied many great Irish traditional musicians of our day in
concert and on record, most recently with New York-based fiddler Brian
Conway.
Kimberley graduated from St Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia
with an honours degree in Celtic Studies and a minor in Jazz music.
She is presently taking graduate courses at Berklee School of Music in
Boston. A master at the trio of fiddling, step dancing and piano,
Kimberley is a much sought after teacher for all three. She has been
a long time instructor at the renowned Gaelic College in Cape Breton
as well as the Ceilidh Trail Music School in Inverness, Cape Breton
where she has worked alongside such notables as Buddy MacMaster,
Brenda Stubbert, and Jerry Holland. Her reputation as a teacher has
also brought her to conduct workshops at festivals such as the
American Festival of Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, Washington and the
North Atlantic Fiddle Convention in Aberdeen, Scotland.
We are fortunate and delighted to be able to present this multi-
talented young lady as a finale to a wonderful season of talented
traditional artists. The Captain Charles Leonard House built in 1805
is a perfect spot to enjoy an intimate night of music, song and dance
steps. A donation of $14 is payable at the door with a reservation
