Dear Move to Amend members,

I received this notice about a meeting tonight repealing Corporate Personhood. If you are able to make it that would be great....maybe we can get some people actually working to get this job done.

Besides part of the job has been done for us, all we have to do is finish the job !!! I have learned there is a resolution currently waiting for the New Jersey Legislators to vote on to amend the constitution and repeal Citizens United. We need to pressure our legislators to pass it and then we have to collect signatures to get it on the ballot.

Why is this important ???? I believe in order for Congress to take up a Constitutional Amendment that 2/3 of the states have to agree to it. So if we can get our legislators to pass the resolution we will not have to deal with getting our local communities to pass them. It is saving us valuable time. We will have to deal with getting people to sign the petition to get it on the ballot.

I will be setting up a petition and formulating a letter to our legislators to sponsor the resolution currently awaiting a vote. <<<<hint,hint.....if someone would like to help writing the letter....I would greatly appreciate it !

In Solidarity
Joanne

For those troubled by the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision and what it means to our democracy, as well as by the many longstanding problems of money in politics, there is a new group forming in South Jersey / Camden County.  South Jersey’s “Democracy is for People” will meet on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 6:45 PM at the Voorhees Public Library.  This meeting will be informational for those who are still learning about the problem, its history and some of the solutions being discussed.  If you already know the issue, then please come help us explain it.

The meeting will also include discussion and organizing.  As a group we can then speak clearly to state and local elected officials to support an amendment to the constitution and to resist the influence of money in governance and electioneering.  We are talking with legislators, but we need a louder voice.

The goal of Getting Money Out of Politics is a non-partisan cause to restore governance to the people.

Corporations are not people and Money is not free speech
