Message from Pennsylvania Coordinator :
What Speaker Pelosi is doing is a complete outrage.  Not only is she autocratically stripping member-voted amendments (e.g., Kucinich's bi-partisan, single-payer enabling language) and reneging on her promise to provide an up-or-down vote on the only proven method to provide comprehensive, quality, affordable healthcare for all Americans (Weiner Amendment/HR 676) but she is also unilaterally inserting a regressive "healthcare cooperative" provision out of the SENATE (ala Sen Kent Conrad) into the HOUSE bill.

The Democratic bosses' war on progressive members and ideas -- matched only by their appeasement of conservative Blue Dogs, and Republicans who won't vote for the bill in any case -- must not stand, cannot stand, and will not stand.  We haven't educated, organized, and mobilized so long and so hard to cave in to more money-driven 'politics as usual.'

Lost in the whole process of this drip-by-drip dilution of meaningful healthcare reform is the fact that there wouldn't even be a bill of any kind if not for the democratically-, morally-, and economically-inspired single payer movement.  On the one hand we're being leveraged by the bosses as the "threat" to be feared by the medical-industrial special interests and, on the other hand, we're being thrown under the corporate-fueled, corporate-steered, and corporate-enabling Democratic Party "bus."

Fight back.  Now!

You can call these California offices until 8 pm EST.
• Speaker Nancy Pelosi: DC (202) 225.4965 - SF, CA (415) 556.4862
• Representative George Miller: DC (202) 225.2095 - Concord, CA (925) 602.1880
• Representative Henry Waxman: DC (202) 225.3976 - LA, CA (323) 651.1040

I thank you, and your children, grandchildren, neighbors and friends will thank you.

Remember, publicly-funded, privately-provided Single Payer healthcare is a centrist solution, a uniquely American solution.  On to victory for PA HB 1660/SB 400, and HR 676/S.703.

Yours in solidarity,

Chuck Pennacchio

These are desperate times.  The message is simple:

"Save the Kucinich ammendment and hold the Weiner vote on 676"

People in Pelosi, Miller, and Waxman offices need to hear that message thousands of times today, over the weekend, and Monday...after that the bill should be in it's 72 hour review period.

So, please make the calls whether or not you have already done so

Here they are again:

•Speaker Nancy Pelosi: DC (202) 225.4965 - SF (415) 556.4862
• Representative George Miller: DC (202) 225.2095 - Concord (925) 602.1880
• Representative Henry Waxman: DC (202) 225.3976 - LA (323) 651.1040

If you would like more personal knowledge about why this is important, here's a link to Donna Smith's excellent explanation.

Dear Joanne ONeill,

Now that we know what the House version of the "public option" looks like (see the compressed version here), now that we know it is basically an insurance company bailout, now that we know that it is the product of intransigient "blue dogs" who refused to support any real reform, now that we know that it has no hope of making health care a right of Americans -- now that we have had our faces slapped and our eyes opened, what do we do?  The easy answer is :persevere.  The less answer is: get arrested.  But the quandary is still presented: do we accept the 'public option' as a fait accompli and hope for better next time, or do we tell liberal Democrats to dump health reform into the trash can where it belongs and start over.  Russell Mokhiber argues forcefully for the latter.  After all, blue dog Democrats have successfully destroyed any hope of health care as a right by focusing Congress on the wrong question: money.  The real question is not 'how do we pay for health insurance for all' but should be 'how do we get health care for all.'
So I need your feedback.  Do we tell Democrats to oppose the health reform bills in the House and Senate, and either do nothing or start over, or do we say "OK, what you have stinks, but it's better than nothing."

Let Nancy Pelosi and your own Congressperson know what you think of this lying, backpedalling and shameful behavior.
