I'm really beginning to hate Vista. My new computer is about a month
old. Just about any folder or file I try to open greets me with a box
telling me I don't have permission to do so. I even tried to use disc
defragmenter today for the first time and I don't have acces and get a
message that mmc cannot open the file c:\windows\system32\defrg.msc. I
tried to run as adminstrator and get the same message box. Is there a
way for me to get access to all my files and folders without Vista
telling me I can't. Since I'm the only user of my computer and have so-
called adminstrator rights, is there a way to allow me acces to all my
stuff? Thanks.

Turn off UAC (User Access Controls) Control Panel -> user accounts -> Turn User Access Control On or Off then uncheck the checkbox and click OK

One more suggestion after you turn off Uac, also shut down the "nag"
messages which will remind you you did it.
Control panel, Security Center, on the left "change the way Security
Center alerts me" to "never alert me".

Or download TweakVista, and click on the Security tab to get total control
over UAC.

Thanks for all the responses. I had to go into the properties/security
tabs to give myself permission to access my own files. Thanks again.
