Exhibition: Home is Where
the Art is
Featured Artists: Filmmaker
Jennifer Benorden and singer/songwriter Suzanne
Benorden
Exhibition Date: Final Friday,
September 29th, 7-10 p.m.
Additional Info: Who says you
can never go home again? West coast artists/musicians Jennifer and Suzanne
Benorden are proof otherwise. Natives of Wichita, the sisters will each be
presenting recent work: an award-winning television show and original music,
respectively. Singer/songwriter Suzanne has been sharing her music in the
Northwest for the past 10 years, but is only too excited to be performing again
in Wichita. Her music is impossible to pigeonhole, at times fiery raging, twangy
hick-hop, or sultry, soulful crooning. (For more information about
Suzanne, please see http://www.sonicbids.com/epk/epk.asp?epk_id=56722) "We
love coming home, and being able to play for people while we're here is icing on
the cake”, says Suzanne. “The Wichita scene has obviously been a huge influence
on us, growing up around musicians and artists like our parents (Carol Denning
and the late Beryl Oscar Benorden), brother (Freddie Brooks), and aunt
(Myrna Campbell of Taproot Studios). It's great to contribute something
back." Adds Jennifer, "Sure, we take our share of 'Dorothy-Toto'
jokes on the west coast, but we know the flatlands are more than just twisters
and Technicolor dreams." In the past 3 years she and her co-producer, Zara
Zimbardo, have been making a public access television program focusing on
different social and environmental justice issues. The show,
4 Directions, has garnered international recognition
for its efforts to bring educational information to the airwaves in an engaging
and entertaining way. (For more information about the documentaries,

For Harry Williford, who joined Gallery XII less than 2 years ago,
this will be the first time as the featured artist.
Harry started late as an artist. Through the influence of his
wife, Mary Ellen, he started a new life as an artist after he retired several
years ago. Once or twice a year, Harry attends an artists retreat in New Mexico
called Ghost Ranch and uses his time there for inspiration and developing his
images. His show will consist of a variety of mediums including some oil &
acrylic paints along with some pastels and watercolors. The title of his exhibit
is "Evolution," and reflects among other things his own personal journey as a
relatively new and developing artist.
Our consignment artist during October is Pamela Blanchard. She
lives and works in Carrollton, Texas and started exhibiting her work at Gallery
XII earlier this year. Pam is primarily a metal worker and will be showing a
variety of copper wallhangings and small sculptures.

THE PHOTO BOOTH
PROJECT
Lawrence Photo has built a photo booth where
individuals, or two or three people at a time (please no more than 25 people in
the booth at one time) can participate in the project by stepping inside the
booth and having a series of photos taken (just like in the photo booths you
used to see outside Woolworths - do you remember
Woolworth's?)
Did you ever close the curtain, put on your favorite
sunglasses or pile in with your favorite friend and create a
memory that that can never be
replaced?
This project kicked off on Friday August 25th with a
nearly blank gallery and by evening's end we were well on the way to
covering the walls! We have printed two sets from each "shoot" one
to Go and one to Show. You take home a 4x6 postcard with your series
of photos on it for yourself! The
second postcard will be displayed for the remainder of the show
and remains property of the Gallery. We have taken over 200
shots and everyone is having a blast with this.
The project's images may be used in future PHOTO BOOTH PROJECTS as
well.
THIS IS FUN!!!! Bring
your friends!

Exhibition: “Creating Art, for art’s
sake” by Mylinda Hoover
Featured Artist: Mylinda
Hoover is majoring in Graphic Design and Communications and will graduate
this May from Friends University. Currently she works at Pioneer Balloon
as a production artist. In her free time, she enjoys a quick game of
catch, or a discussion about “the important things,” but more than anything she
likes to turn on her country music, open the windows and just create something
out of nothing. That’s right, whether it be a painting, etching or a play-dough
sculpture of the next-door neighbor’s rubber ducky, it is an artwork in the
making. And that’s what it’s all about: “Creating
art, for art’s sake.”
Exhibition Date: September 29 - October 24, 2006, 2006.
Reception Date: Final Friday, September 29, 2006, 6:00 p.m. –

Final Friday at The Photographers'
Gallery: September 29th brings five
new collections of works for art fans. Among the five is the debut of a
first-time exhibitor as well as new exhibits by four veterans of past shows at
The Photographers’ Gallery. To celebrate
these additions, The Photographers’ Gallery will host a Final Friday reception,
6 p.m. to 9 p.m., on September 29.
These image collections will be displayed until October
21.
In her Final Friday debut at The Photographers’ Gallery, Wichita
photographer Dianne Waltner unveils an exhibit blending landscape and floral
photography produced over several months of shooting.
Dianne’s collection reflects nature in all its variety and beauty
in a distinct style that captures the viewer’s eye.
Returning to The Photographers’ Gallery is El Dorado shooter Terri
Ludewick with a new collection of her original landscapes and off-beat floral
and animal photographs. Terri’s past
collections have exhibited a wide-ranging eye for the beautiful and unique and
her new collection continues that tradition.
We are also very pleased to announce another all-new collection
from the lens of Wichita photographer John Ellert: the first of five exhibitions
exploring various aspect of the Pacific coast, from Alaska to
California. The theme of John’s first exhibition is the
coastal forest and each image is accompanied by a short narrative while short
quotes from naturalist John Muir complement groups of
images. Exhibitions in future months will follow
the cycle of waterfalls, coastal landscapes, wildflowers, and inland
landscapes. John’s collections typically evoke a sense
of the rhythm and beauty of the locales he’s shot and his new West Coast odyssey
is no exception.
The Photographers’ Galley is also happy to announce a new
selection of works by gallery veteran Vernon McGee that represents a significant
departure from his past focus on abstract images created out of photographic
images. This month Vernon introduces us to the
striking world of bugs and insects with a collection of extreme macro
photographs sure to inspire some with the awe of these complex creatures while
inspiring nightmares in any viewers with a phobia about
bugs.
Gallery veteran Don Vines is exhibiting a new collection of his
original wildlife and floral photos with a twist that will leave viewers sure
there’s something new and different – but unsure exactly what’s
different.
Continuing their exhibitions are Gallery veterans Earl Ward and
Joey Henry, who offer their unique visions in the simplicity of monochrome
images printed specifically to match the distinct subject matter of their
collections.
Finally, resident photographer Dave Higdon has updated his recent
collection titled, “Airshow – Images from the Front Lines of
Flight.” The images Dave debuted last month in his
“Airshow” collection offer a window into the color and action of contemporary
aviation entertainment and the people who participate and his updated images
continues that theme.
Once again, the Final Friday Arts Trolley will provide service
west along Douglas as far as Seneca providing Final Friday Gallery Crawlers easy
transportation between participating galleries in the Historic Delano District,
