We're supposed to be in for bad weather tonight, but if it clears in time, I'm going to ride the Enid loop leaving from the Square (in front of City Hall) at 9:00. 16-17 mph pace. Chris B

I plan to ride at 10:00 from the Square. Route is TBA, but I'm imagining something like 30-40 miles with an average of 17 mph or so. Meet in front of City Hall if you're interested. Chris B

Below is Lucy's response to my inquiry about re-running the share the road column for February, forwarded to you with her permission. I completely understand her reasons for saying no to the column re-run. Her point about "t-shirts", however, leads me to a third wild idea I've had. Dave Zabriskie has founded Yield to Life, a non-profit organization to deal with exactly the types of issues we've been discussing ([link]), and they are launching a number of education programs. (What if Mr. Zabriskie could make a swing through Oxford?.... yeah, like that would happen at this point in the year.) Anyway, they do have jerseys, t-shirts, socks, and stickers already made out. At present you can only get them if you become a sponsor, but they've shown themselves open to suggestion before (I've already e-mailed them once), and they might be willing to just sell them if prompted since that makes money, too. I'd be willing to take point on that effort if there's interest.... more »

Bearing in mind that I have no idea what it would take to make either one of these happen, and that neither has any direct bearing on what we can do for Bike Month, I offer the following for consideration: 1. What about setting up a bike skills/bike maintenance/helmet fitting/rules of the road stand during next year's Double Decker, in addition to the ride? On the Square would be great (cost prohibitive?), or at least on the children's end of the festival.... more »
