On Sunday, March 23, 2008 at 1:35p.m., Newton Police were summoned to
the area of Merriam Gateway Condominium Complex on Sparta Avenue for a
reported dispute.
Upon arrival, responding officers investigated and determined that a
male reportedly involved in the dispute was in possession of a
hammer. The male, idenitified as David Hooks, age 38, of Spring
Street, Newton was also found to be in possession of an open pocket
knife with a 2 inch blade and another knife with an 8 inch blade which
were both concealed on his person.
Subsequently, Hooks was arrested for Possession of a Weapon for an
Unlawful Purpose and attempted to resist by running from the police.
Hooks was detained after a brief struggle and taken into custody.
During processing procedures, it was learned that Hooks had provided
police with false information relating to his personal identifiers and
he was additionally charged with Hindering his own Apprehension after
an outstanding warrant out of New York City was located for him.
Hooks was lodged in the Sussex County Jail in lieu of bail pending an
appearance in Superior Court.
