Hi there, I came across this API just recently as my company is
looking to expand some of our applications' capabilities. The
programming language in use is Java and our concern is mainly
synchronizing contacts between Outlook Express and our application. I
assume that synchronization of contacts would be the same for Outlook
Express and Windows Live Mail would be similar, but we hope to have a
solution for both Windows XP and Vista.

I've downloaded the standard version of your API and when I was
reading the overview of your product it said that there was a
possibility to synchronize contacts. After looking through the
documentation I couldn't find anything at all pertaining to contacts.
Maybe I'm just missing something, but we're very interested in using
your API, but without the ability to synchronize contacts to and from
Outlook Express we cannot use this, and it looks like yours is the
only solution for easily communicating with Outlook Express. I'm sure
I just don't have the knowledge about the product to easily
distinguish where the functionality is, and your response to that
would be greatly appreciated.

I was perusing your license agreement and would appreciate some
clarification on a couple things. I see that there is both a standard
edition and an enterprise edition. Our applications have both free
versions and pay versions, and we have a single developer working on
contact synchronization, so I'm wondering if the licensing agreement
allows us to simply use the standard license or if we must purchase an
enterprise license, as we will not be using any of the advanced
functionality.

I look forward to your reply, thanks in advance!

Hi Kyle:

To manage contacts on XP and Vista, you can use our NKTWAB tool, which is open source under a LGPL free software license.
On Windows Vista you can only access the contacts stored on the 'C:\Users\%Username%\Contacts' folder.
Once installed you can check the VB6 Demo project (On 'C:\Program Files\NKTWab\Demo\VB') as a reference of how to use the contacts API.

OEAPI Standard has a freeware license now, so it's free of charge and can be redistributed for commercial and non-commercial purposes.
OEAPI Enterprise has a per-developer basis license, a license is paid for each developer that works with the library.
Please take a look at the functionality differences between this two editions on the features page, if you have any doubt please let us know.

Thank you for contacting Nektra's OEAPI Support.

Regards,

Federico

That is all great news Federico, I've tried the demo for NKTWAB and it
is exactly what we are looking for. Thanks again for your support and
very fast reply! Cheers!
