One of my mates, Stuart Childs, has got a laser-cutter and has teamed up
with Full Circle Arts over in Manchester to run a collaborative project
and competition using the laser-cutter.
It's based around the "living hinge" design that you might've seen here
at DoES - John has cut a couple of boxes using it - and Stu is looking
for people to use it in new and interesting ways. The original
inspiration for the design was a funky notebook cover, and Stu has been
playing around with things like using it to make some glasses.
There are more details on the project wiki
<http://sniject.wikispaces.com/>, and more of an introduction in this
write-up
<http://theculturevulture.co.uk/blog/people-and-places/the-dutch-for-cut-is-snij/>
You don't even need access to a laser-cutter to enter - they'll cut a
couple of designs for you for free, but obviously if you come along to
maker night or maker day you can do some cutting there.
Cheers,
Adrian.
