Ahoy,
There is a meeting in Newburyport about the upcoming Laser sailing in Newburyport out of American YC.  Here is what has been forwarded to me:

the Fleet,

We will meet on Friday evening, April 11th at 7:00 PM for a
social/meeting at the Masonic Hall, 31 Green St in Newburyport.  The
entry door is to the left front of the building where there is a small
parking area.  Attached is a preliminary schedule that needs to be
approved.

Also attached is an updated copy of the fleet directory.

Hope to see you all on Friday.

This is a good group that deserves our support.  I have attached their schedule.
Thanks,
Ken

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Reknowned Artist Robert Grimson donates to Regatta

Former NH Poet Laureate and Columbia University Prof follow suit

Celebrated Artist Robert Grimson has donated one of his archival prints to benefit the Ned McIntosh Anniversary Regatta, which will be held at Great Bay Yacht Club, Dover Point, NH on July 19, 2008.
Grimson began oil painting at age twelve but had no formal training and did not take art seriously until the late 1980's when much influenced by the British marine artist, the late John Chancellor. Robert has sailed since a boy and he and his wife, Jean, live aboard their 37ft traditional gaff ketch, MEANDER, which he built in England in 1990 and crossed the Atlantic in 1993. MEANDER can very often be seen moored off Dover Point in the summer, at the Club.

“Most of my work is produced in MEANDER's small cabin which is not easy, but does have the advantage of being able to look toward the sea for inspiration”. Robert’s work is currently available in the UK at Lander Gallery in Truro, Cornwall and Gallery Marin in Appledore, N. Devon and in the US at J. Russell Jinishian Marine Art Gallery in Fairfield, Connecticut and Mystic Seaport.

Contributing their works of literature for this Historic occasion are Former NH Poet Laureate Marie Harris and Columbia University Professor Michael Scammell. Scammell, an English author and translator of Slavic literature, was educated at the University of Nottingham, and obtained a doctorate at Columbia University. Notable translations include Vladimir Nabokov's The Gift and The Defense (working with the author), Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, and Leo Tolstoy's Childhood, Boyhood and Youth. More recently he has translated the poetry of the Slovenian writer Edvard Kocbek in Nothing is Lost. He has written biographies of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and Arthur Koestler. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Scammell

Former NH Poet Laureate Marie Harris is the author of four books of poetry and two children's books. She has edited several literary anthologies and written travel essays for newspapers and magazines, as well as technical copy for Isinglass Marketing and a number of other marketing companies. http://www.marieharris.com/

Great Bay Yacht Club, Dover Point, New Hampshire, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its incorporation with a gala celebration on July 19th, 2008. The regatta is named in honor of Ned McIntosh, well known local boat builder whose jaunty “MerryMac” started the club back in the 1950’s.

Race Pro Tom Brown will conduct the race which will begin at noon. Post regatta festivities include entertainment by Ben Baldwin and Kent Allyn, ample food and beverages, raffle and auction prizes. For Entrant fee is $25.00.

Sponsorships are still available, as are volunteer positions. For more information, visit
